Completely unbelievable plot and character decision making. Such a let down after the first two books

In all the exciting parts the ambient noise and music are so loud that you can’t hear what the narrator is saying. Especially true at the end. Sapped all the enjoyment out of it for me.

Book one was SOOO great. And so were the next few books. But man have things gotten off the rails. There are fourteen of these book’s? Dear God why?! I just don’t care anymore and this book did nothing to make me want to keep reading. But I’ve made it so far...I guess I’ll give book 8 a try but if it’s just more of the same spinning of the wheels b.s. I think I’ll be done with this series.

The characters just so two dimensional. Could Nynaeve be anymore annoying and yet she’s supposed to be wise? Does she have no insight into her behavior? Why does everyone’s eyes “bulge out of their heads” at the slightest little thing? Why can’t the Aiel still not pronounce the words “boat” and “rain”? Are those words really so hard? They live like a couple weeks walk from rainy areas with rivers and such yet they’ve never come across people with the word “river” in their lexicon? It’s like give me a break already. Jordan should have quit while he was ahead.

Thank God I didn’t stop listening the several times I wanted to quit. The first 5 or so hours I thought were boring. I didn’t care about any of the characters. It was just a bunch of combat. No intrigue. Nothing to make me care. But if you muscle through all that I promise that it gets WAY better and you meet characters that you definitely do care about. I get why the author laid the groundwork in this way but I think he risked losing some readers who didn’t tough it out to where it gets good. But hang in there because it definitely does.

Why in the world does the author keep saying “say it now!” So distracting and unnecessary. And that dingbat who keeps saying “you should have said...” is beyond unnecessary and super annoying.

Otherwise the method and content is excellent.

What the hell are you guys smoking? I’m halfway through part four and I still don’t know how to say simple things like the colors, basic table items like fork and spoon, or emotions like anger or boredom, BUT you’re teaching me how to say things like UNESCO world heritage site and cobblestone streets and Portuguese tiles. I don’t know how to say rice and beans and yet you seem to think it’s more important that I learn how to say sautéed kale and peanut brittle. Like seriously?! I have never both loved and hated a course so much. The method is amazing and I’d recommend it to anyone but your choice of vocabulary is just plain stupid. My wife is Brazilian and she said she doesn’t use many of the words I’m learning. No one says poosha anymore for “wow.” And no ones says paralelepipedo for cobblestone streets. I find myself screaming “who cares!” through many of these lessons. Keep it simple Pimsleur. Teach me the things I need to know to have basic conversations. Let me decide if I want to learn how to say colonial architecture. Wow. Just wow.

Loved all the Expeditionary force books but without Skippy or Joe I have a hard time caring what happens to these very secondary characters. Not to mention all the needless details that didn’t seem to really push the story along. If it weren’t for RC Bray’s excellent narration I wouldn’t have been able to make it past the first few chapters.

This may be one of the best books I’ve ever read. So incredibly creative in both the page to page minutia and overall story arc. There’s nothing I don’t love about this book. So happy I stumbled across it. An amazing surprise. You must read this book!

I don’t know where to start. First John Ryan’s “humor” isn’t that funny at its best and is usually just abrasively annoying. Not sure if I should just blame the writing for that or attribute some of that to the performance - but either way the humor is low brow and grating. You can also tell a nerd wrote the book since some of the “suave” one liners John uses with the ladies in both books are just cringeworthy.

Second, the author pulls bullshit out of thin air so much that the book could just as easily be called “Bullshit Out Of Thin Air.” John Ryan is so ridiculously overpowered that if he were to actually use all of his skills and God-like alien-gifted devices when it made sense to, the book would be a short story. Realizing this the author instead allows John Ryan to go on a ten year journey with pirates to some far off planet because he heard one of his abductors mention humans. If John had half a brain in his head he would have used his stupid probe thingy to find out all the pirate captain (or anyone else) knew and then teleport to the area of interest in his stupid space folding cube and save the day within 30 minutes or so. But where’s the fun in that? So instead, John decides to join the pirate crew scrubbing toilets because he wants to “let things play out naturally.” Where’s the urgency to save the humans you moron?! This sort of thing happens repeatedly throughout both books.

On the plus side if you can suspend disbelief to the point of absurdity I have to admit that I enjoyed the pace of the story and always wanted to see what happened next. I wouldn’t have made it through to the second book otherwise. Still - if you want a vaguely similar story that’s executed a million times better read the Bobiverse books. Those books are truly excellent from start to finish. Wish they didn’t end.
