Battle Cry of Freedom vividly traces how a new nation was forged when a war both sides were sure would amount to little dragged for four years and cost more American lives than all other wars combined. Narrator Jonathan Davis powerful reading brings to life the many voices of the Civil War.

The author brought a fresh perspective to this well tiled soil.
I highly recommend this book to everyone. Especially those who want or need to understand the great price our forefathers paid to begin rectifying the sins of our fathers.

Historia
When it comes to climate change, the media, politicians, and other prominent voices have declared that "the science is settled." In reality, the long game of telephone from research to reports to the popular media is corrupted by misunderstanding and misinformation. Core questions - about the way the climate is responding to our influence, and what the impacts will be - remain largely unanswered. The climate is changing, but the why and how aren't as clear as you've probably been led to believe.

Not what I expected.
Revisado: 02-17-23
No, this book was not what I expected, and I’m thankful!
The author was unafraid to speak truth to anyone who will listen. Everyone I know has a solid opinion about this subject. Their opinion might not be based on much, but they are certain they are following the science.
I think everyone who reads this book will have one or more of their preconceived notions knocked down. It certainly happened to me.
I admit to being skeptical about much of the science behind global warming. But I’m still looking for a good solar system to provide electric to my home.
“If we don’t conserve, we won’t have,” a framed slogan on a wall I’ve read since my youth. It’s a good reminder for many of life’s decisions.
I hope this book will be read widely and discussed openly throughout the country.

Historia
At the front of a middle-school classroom in Oklahoma, a boy named Khosrou (whom everyone calls "Daniel") stands, trying to tell a story. His story. But no one believes a word he says. To them he is a dark-skinned, hairy-armed boy with a big butt whose lunch smells funny; who makes things up and talks about poop too much.

No sad endings?
Revisado: 08-26-22
I’ve just finished this book for a second time this summer.
The first time through was in late June, while driving cross country to be with my mother. She was 92, had lived a wonderful life, but Alzheimer’s had taken its toll. My heart was heavy and I wanted to be reassured, that “Everything Sad Is Untrue.”
I heard all the words, but one phrase stood out: If the story has a sad ending, you haven’t reached the end of the story!
(That’s how I remember the quote!)
Two weeks before that drive, I drove the same way, to attend another, unexpected family funeral. That was two in less than three weeks.
I’m back home now, and Re listened to it again. I just completed another cross country trip, to help settle mom’s estate. And I attended another, unexpected funeral. Not family, but a forty year friend. Plus, mom’s baby sister passed between the two trips.
Everything Sad Is Untrue, is an oddly titled book to be drawn back to re-read during this season of life & loss. Or, it’s the best book possible.
With each passing, multiple stories are recalled and told with gusto. Most are joyous; some are heartbreaking, but every one is true.
Thank you Daniel, for telling us your true story. Thank you for sharing the sharing the truth of your mom, the true hero of your story.
Our mother

This is a story of power, set against Puritan America and the English Civil War. Williams's interactions with King James, Francis Bacon, Oliver Cromwell, and his mentor Edward Coke set his course, but his fundamental ideas came to fruition in America, as Williams, though a Puritan, collided with John Winthrop's vision of his "City upon a Hill."

Begin with the ending
Revisado: 03-02-22
This is a remarkable book, about a remarkable person, who lived through a remarkable period of time!
I have always known of Roger Williams, but mostly as a caricature type figure. Even after completing this book, I did not really begin to understand the direction connection to American life in 2022, until I heard the author’s concluding remarks in the last chapter.
Suddenly, the distant “Star Chamber” court began to remind me of our modern “FISA Court.” Oh yes, both were born from good intentions. But the absolute power overtook the brightest and best among us, and them, turning it into something which should give us all a moment of pause.
I heartily endorse this book, to everyone!

Historia
The origins of Covid-19 are shrouded in mystery. Scientists and government officials insisted, for a year and a half, that the virus had a natural origin, ridiculing anyone who dared contradict this view. Tech giants swept the internet, censoring and silencing debate in the most extreme fashion. Yet it is undeniable that a secretive facility in Wuhan was immersed in genetically manipulating bat-coronaviruses in perilous experiments. And as soon as the news of an outbreak in Wuhan leaked, the Chinese military took control and gagged all laboratory insiders.

Wow! Just Wow.
Revisado: 10-14-21
Remember, Martha Stewart went to prison because she erased one appointment from her calendar, to cover up an insider stock purchase. If Sherri Markson is mostly correct, what should happen to some of the most “trusted” scientists in America?
If this Austrian investigative journalist is right, more than a few folks might want to start packing their luggage. Exactly what happened in Wuhan might never be completely uncovered, because the evidence was apparently destroyed.
What a start.
A Washington DC dinner party, on November 22, 2019, is the opening salvo, perfectly placed to let you know, you might not know what really happened in Wuhan!
How Sherri Markson has this audio book published, and included the infamous debate between Drs Fauci and Paul during a U.S. Senate hearing only a few weeks ago, is beyond me.
Listen closely. Back it up and listen again. Then ask yourself why we’re hearing this from an Australian journalist, not an American journalist?
Sherri might not have everything exactly correct, but God Bless her for taking on this subject. And for asking the questions so many other’s were afraid to ask!
This is likely the most important/timely Audible book I’ve ever heard!

Historia
Lin-Manuel Miranda's groundbreaking musical Hamilton is as revolutionary as its subject: the poor kid from the Caribbean who fought the British, defended the Constitution, and helped to found the United States. Fusing hip-hop, pop, R&B, and the best traditions of theater, this once-in-a-generation show broadens the sound of Broadway, reveals the storytelling power of rap, and claims our country's origins for a diverse new generation.

An enjoyable mistake
Revisado: 07-12-20
I thought I was purchasing the book that inspired the musical. For a few minutes I considered sending it back to Audible.
That would have been the real mistake!
I have watched numerous shows about the making of Hamilton. I’m one of the millions who wanted to see Hamilton but Broadway isn’t in my neighborhood. Last weekend was my first opportunity to see what all the excitement was about.
The show exceeded my expectations by a moonshot!
This told so many backstories, which gave more depth and breadth to the production.
I’m excited to see Hamilton again! This time, with insight into the lives of the people who brought it to life. The personal tragedies and triumphs so many experienced, and those events added life to this show.
Well done.

Historia
Something is wrong. We all know it. American life expectancy is declining for a third straight year. Birth rates are dropping. Nearly half of us think the other political party isn’t just wrong; they’re evil. We’re the richest country in history, but we’ve never been more pessimistic. What’s causing the despair? In Them, bestselling author and U.S. senator Ben Sasse argues that, contrary to conventional wisdom, our crisis isn’t really about politics. It’s that we’re so lonely we can’t see straight—and it bubbles out as anger. Local communities are collapsing.

Them... is about us.
Revisado: 01-24-20
I did not know much about the author when I purchased this audio book. I had a vague idea of his politics but nothing more.
I appreciated his honest setup for the book. He claimed his biases... the “rose coloring” of the lenses through which he sees life.
What I found most challenging is the simple idea of being rooted. I can see how I’ve missed out, similar to the author’s confession, when we moved to a new city. Because I assumed we would only be “here” for a year, why put out the effort, just to say goodbye!
The achilles’ heel was the one year stay became a couple years, but my community engagement remained less than “all in.” We’re now 21 year residents and eventually became fully engaged. But unknown opportunities were lost.
I’ve been impressed with the book and have recommended it to friends on both sides of the aisle. Friends from the left have smiled but without any intention to go beyond.
Changing tactics, I repeated the story about LAX caskets and homeless burials with a name on a wall. Both resonated with friends on my left. And that’s because neither the story or the solution are partisan! Not about Red or Blue. But they are about caring for the unrooted, vulnerable members of our towns.
It started a conversation.
This book holds many more good ideas; conversation starters on subjects we need to be discussing as a community!
Buy it and join the conversation!

My review can not do it justice
Revisado: 09-28-19
I wish I could write a review that does justice to this “Practical Primer”. But I know my words will fall short.
I have read Glenn Kreider previously so I had a notion of what might be in store. My expectations were far exceeded.
So much so that I have already given friends screenshots of the book, and I hadn’t even finished it. I’ve just completed it. I don’t know how we will make use this book, yet. But I can see it as a springboard, in the coming months, as we gathering around the table, each bringing a diverse cross section of gifts.
I trust others we be as intrigued and challenged by this Primer as I been!

Summer, 1863. The Federal triumph at Vicksburg has secured complete control of the Mississippi River from the Confederacy, cementing the reputation of Ulysses S. Grant. Farther east, the Federal army under the command of William Rosecrans captures the crucial rail hub at Chattanooga. But Rosecrans is careless, and while pursuing the Confederates, the Federal forces are routed in north Georgia at Chickamauga Creek.

Thank you!
Revisado: 08-09-19
I have read many of the previous books by Jeff Shaara and enjoyed each one.
This purchase was more personal. For years I knew two great grandfathers, father and son, served in the Civil War. It wasn’t until the past year that I discovered particularly engagements their regiment were involved. I’ve wanted to gain insight into those battles.
This book did just that! The recollections from the Battle of Chickamauga to the triumphant charge on Missionary Ridge, this was thrilling to hear! The mention of “Wood" as one leading men into the late afternoon engagement on Missionary Ridge made reminder of the book intensely personal. I know my Great Grandfathers regiment was lead by “Wood” in this charge. I’ll likely never know for certain if they were personally on the field that day but I do know their regiment was and that’s good enough for me!
Thank you Jeff Shaara for writing about the western theatre of the Civil War!
