Fast but Eerie
Revisado: 09-30-23
Wonderful little snippets of the sinister forces that lurk on a different level. Pacing was a little fast for horror, but the voice was amazing.

unable to continue - too much abuse
Revisado: 02-04-23
struggling to finish. I don't find abuse to be entertaining so I will not be able to finish listening. The reader does an excellent job but the story is too much for me.

Historia
On a day that begins like any other, Hal receives a mysterious letter bequeathing her a substantial inheritance. She realizes very quickly that the letter was sent to the wrong person - but also that the cold-reading skills she's honed as a tarot card reader might help her claim the money. Soon, Hal finds herself at the funeral of the deceased...where it dawns on her that there is something very, very wrong about this strange situation and the inheritance at the center of it. Full of spellbinding menace and told in Ruth Ware's signature suspenseful style, an addictive thriller.

Nine of us came here. We look like you. We talk like you. We live among you. But we are not you. We can do things you dream of doing. We have powers you dream of having. We are stronger and faster than anything you have ever seen. We are the superheroes you worship in movies and comic books—but we are real.

well that was different
Revisado: 03-09-21
overall I enjoyed the story. I'll admit I watched the movie first and I can really tell the difference. I am intrigued enough to continue the series, however, I did not enjoy the liatening to the reader. His voice for the women was downright annoying and I can't tell how much I disliked his voice for most of the men. Really - I like Onri and I felt the reader gave his voice the best even better than John's.

Historia
Penny hates the outdoors, but when her boyfriend, Jared, plans a romantic weekend getaway in the woods, she decides to tag along. The pair drive to a remote Kentucky campground with a strange and sordid history. Within the confines of the Swan Creek State Park are the ruins of a town abandoned under terrifying circumstances in the 19th century. The town of Newsom's Landing had been the site of the last-known witch trial in US history, and the ghost of its defendant, the infamous Ellie Pomeroy, is said to still linger.

meh at best
Revisado: 10-22-20
for a short story - it took forever. Penny was whiny and Jared was pushy. The ghost/witch was not as scary as I thought she would be. I wanted something more but it lacked in the scare department for me. I liked the history of Newsome amd Ellie but in the end - it was a meh for me.

Historia
Patricia Campbell's life has never felt smaller. Her ambitious husband is too busy to give her a goodbye kiss in the morning, her kids have their own lives, her senile mother-in-law needs constant care, and she's always a step behind on thank-you notes and her endless list of chores. The one thing she has to look forward to is her book club, a close-knit group of Charleston women united by their love of true crime and paperback fiction. At these meetings they're as likely to talk about the Manson family as they are marriage, motherhood, and neighborhood gossip.

No Lake Wobegon
Revisado: 07-16-20
Where all the men are evil, the women are too fearful (at times) to stand up to those that look down on them, and the children are snots. Few scenes stick out for their horror and the attic is the most terrifying. Overall it was a good read and I enjoyed it.

a bit much
Revisado: 07-09-20
While I enjoyed the story, it was a bit much. too much of the wolves and too much "oh how I wish". James read the story well and I was able to finish it but it lacked something I can't put my finger on.

Revisado: 06-25-20
I watched the show well before the book. I enjoyed both but I kept thinking "that's not how it happened". overall James is an excellent reader so he made the story enjoyable to listen to. Harry has a very low opinion of himself but at least he is one of the good guys.
