Pretty Scary!
Revisado: 01-31-23
2 young ladies with a podcast working many miles apart. 1 staying where they call home and 1 staying in a Mn cabin near the border with Canada that belongs her friend's parents.
They are giving a podcast and enjoying lots of wine when they get a question about a missing person from the area in MN near where the one is staying and the other grew up. The lady who grew up bahaves as if she is heartbroken over hearing the missing person's name and becomes upset enough to call an end to the night. The other lady doesn't understand and tries to get some answers to her questions.
They are apart and the lady persues the case. She' s tenacious but is she making enemies? The locals aren't very friendly but they try - it is worth listening to - J

Historia
Actor Kelsey Grammer, best known for his roles in the TV sitcoms Cheers and Frasier, delivers Bitter Brew, a compelling mystery featuring Detective Bill Walsh, an upstate cop in the quiet, rural town of Beatriceville, 200 miles north of New York City, who suspects foul play in the death of millionaire city transplant Jonathan Kimball, even though the evidence points to suicide, not murder.

Good Book & Good Reader!
Revisado: 01-22-23
Kelsey Grammer could have made it as a writer - Great job Just finished and I don't know how to write about it without giving everything away. There is a suspected suicide followed by a murdered bird. Who could seriously put these together? There is a detective in a small town with little serious crime. He has been divorced twice and the descriptions of one of his former wives will have you howling at the description. There is plenty of detecting going on and so many clues - but what are they pointing at? You'll definitely want to read it to the end. And I'd be surprised if you ever guess the ending. But you'll learn about "water law". Eating habits of endangered birds, and some of the spicier reasons to live near a college in an area with lots of small towns.

Historia
Stephen Aston is getting married again. The only problem is, he's still married to his first wife, even though she is in a care facility for dementia. But he'll take care of that easily, by divorcing her—even if his adult daughters protest. Tully and Rachel Aston look upon Heather as nothing but an interloper. Heather is the same age as Rachel and even younger than Tully. Clearly she's a gold digger and after their father's money. Heather has secrets that she's keeping close, and reasons of her own for wanting to marry Stephen.

The Younger Wife
Revisado: 11-04-22
What a surprising and amazing story! You will see how dementia can affect people and family and maybe we all should consider head trauma from earlier times as a cause and certainly something to be avoided. But this is an often quirky story with ideas like inviting an ex-wife to a wedding. The daughters involved are amazing characters. They are great but have coped with their own difficulties in ways that allowed them to be functional but possibly "set up to fail" or need to vent eventually. This is a nice family that can pull together and are from well-off (rich) circumstances. This story is often light but does show how a person who is controlling can also be violent in a physical way that even the victim questions 'what has been happening". Again a surprising and worthwhile book - I enjoyed listening to the Audiobook. They do jump around in time in these peoples lives. You'll keep up but maybe don't listen while there are lots of distractions.

Historia
When Kate Burke is awakened one night by a sound outside her window, her PTSD is triggered. Was it simply a deer crossing her secluded backyard? Or was it intruders? Because Kate still lives with the dreadful memories of her husband’s murder during a seemingly random home invasion two years before, she knows the answer can mean the difference between life and death. But when she discovers the unsettling ways her property has been vandalized the next day, Kate is forced to conclude the worst: someone is watching her.

Revisado: 09-05-22
Wow - what a story! About 2 sisters who were very close but a set of actions by one pulls them apart. But they aren't the only ones affected. It's a comment on our times about people who make construction and real estate big business. But the depths some will go to in order to make money from what seems to them a nudge pushing people out of their way but can even lead to murder. I had no idea how people could be pushed off land they would have happily lived on for a lifetime. In certain parts of our country good people can be shamed away from their homes, have their reputations ruined by innuendo, and a nude picture is still a very dangerous thing to have out there. This is the atmosphere that touches on the lives of these 2 sisters. Will they find their way back to friendship or is that doomed because of what has gone on before? They are strong ladies with strong friends but even then their is enough corruption to make you wonder how and if they will have a future.

2nd Naturalist Book
Revisado: 07-15-22
This book took alittle time to get started compared with Mayne's 1st book of the series but it was great. And a quick review at times of various scientific milestones. From using a tailor made bacteria to help find a dangerous criminal to "what would you do if you were caught in such an uncomfortable situation". Definitely high pressure action - and what seems like a world gone crazy not listening to people calling the police for help. I've already bought the next book!

Revisado: 06-01-22
Clive Cussler always manages to include the unusual but natural (in this case a meteor) with some very serious situations. J Charles read quickly but is still very easy to understand. That is a skill I wish I had. To listen to a world full of such adventure - with the people who have the skills to manage almost any situation. And there is always a bit of humor. This is the 2nd book of the Oregon Files.

Historia
For three years, Detective Jude Fontaine was kept from the outside world. Held in an underground cell, her only contact was with her sadistic captor, and reading his face was her entire existence. Learning his every line, every movement, and every flicker of thought is what kept her alive. After her experience with isolation and torture, she is left with a fierce desire for justice - and a heightened ability to interpret the body language of both the living and the dead.

The Body Reader
Revisado: 05-19-22
What a great book! The Body Reader is an exceptional detective and also a victim. We see early steps of how she creates a new life and the type of people who can accept her. We hear a bit about how mental health is judged and are the treatments punishment or actually helpful? I've bought the next 2 books and feel this detective will fill a roll that the families and victims may need. The reader for the audiobook was excellent -- a very understandable voice that doesn't make you criticize the characters described.

The Girl Beneath the Sea
Revisado: 03-05-21
What a whirlwind of action! Nice as well as nasty characters and lots of secrets. The main character is a lady diver who is also part of the police department in Florida. She finds a body while doing a college project and catches the attention of more police authorities than I knew existed. Her family were treasure hunters in the same area where she works and found themselves on the wrong side of the law in the past. Who is honest? The lady is brave to the point of recklessness but is determined to follow up on the cause of death of the lady she found. She has more friends than she knows and they are thrown together. If you aren't too afraid of alligators, sharks, or people who deal with drugs --- just the healthy amount of fear -- you will like this book!

Stillhouse Lake
Revisado: 11-23-20
Wow! I started this book yesterday and finished it today! A family with the history of moving repeatedly because of a horrific incident that colored all the memories of their past. The ex-husband/father was a serial killer. The wife seems to have worked things out amazingly well but trouble keeps finding them. The emotions are real and not contrived. Would you blame the family of a serial killer? What would this family do to stay together? Nobody believes they are blameless but why do others apparently idolize the serial killer? This book will keep you fully engaged for the entire time. You will be amazed by the lengths people will go to in order to remain free and you will remember this book. Emily Sutton-Smith's reading will keep you on the edge of your seat. Rachel Caine is an amazing writer!
