love this series
Revisado: 02-22-22
Best book in the series. Cliche thing to say but hands down this is the best book in a series that started strong and has become my top five. I love these characters, I love their individuality and depth. Action, humour romance, complex true love and pain.

With one more instalment left to complete the series I'm strongly leaning towards this being in the top of my all time favorite series. I very seldom pick up an audiobook with less than 15 hours per book but the blend of nostalgia and classic ghost story tone with witty interesting characters makes me soo happy to in this case have made an exception! I'm certain that before the final book comes out I'll have listened to the first three at least twice again! Well done Mr. Feuerbach thank you!

It may be that the translation from it's original German makes the language so appealing but I just can't get enough of this story. It combines campfire fable with sword and sorcerer novel in a fantastic way. Characters are well formed and endearing in a world that feels sort of Tim Burton at the end of many reading sessions. Think sleepy Hollow but with better character development. Really love this series.

A solid book!
Revisado: 05-03-21
I'm admittedly a fan of tropes. Coming of age to be righteous and save the damsel in distress is a good story to me anytime. I just don't need or want people being horrible and dark to enjoy a story or feel like a character has multiple facets. However this author has brought to life very realistic characters who are complex and likeable who possess the depth to keep their relationships and actions interesting while driving a well put together plot to somewhere I really want to go!
Hope this helps.

every installment of the series gets better and better. I usually find prequels irritating but with exception to just one characters fate from the original series I'm happy with learning more back story.

Historia
The scales have tipped. The battle for Namdhor, the north, and the entire realm of man was a sure victory for the orcs. But they lost. Now, under the rule of a would-be-king, the armies of man fuel the war when they should be bolstering their defenses. Only a few understand that time is against them, yet these few must fight alone if the dawn is to rise over Illian once more. The heroes of the realm have banded together, but they cannot fight side by side. There is only one way they can win, seen by the oldest dragon and preserved inside the broken mind of a ranger.

ughhhh
Revisado: 06-26-20
why? Many see romantic arcs in a sword and sorcery tale as useless filler but to me they're some of the best parts of the story. That being said I'm willing to forgo their presence in place of quality story but honestly the author seems to really enjoy writing villains and spends most of his time setting up how terrible their deeds are and how hopeless the heroes are. On top of that you've got half the heroes as celibate dragon riders! how boring is that? If I was trapped in this world you would find me in a burned out tavern drunk with a dwarf. Wondering how all the dragon riders let all but one city burn to the ground and if there might be a content somewhere that after six books a tormented hero can get laid.
PS Steven Brand did a great job as usual.

Historia
When Minalan the Spellmonger was exiled from his beloved mageland of Sevendor by Prince Tavard, his friend Duke Anguin made him Count Palatine of the Magelaw, a vast realm in the Alshari Wilderlands that Minalan is all too familiar with. After the goblin invasion, the province is devastated, ruined, and peopled almost only by freed slaves. But Minalan has brought his recovering wife and family into exile with him, and he views their impoverished fief as an opportunity to build a new City of Magi in the wilderness.
