I have a listen to his other book and really enjoyed listening to this one. I’ve already told my granddaughters who are going into business for themselves to listen to the book as they can learn quite a bit to help them navigate with their business and staff! Great book!

Historia
Caitlyn Sullivan had come from a long line of Hollywood royalty, stretching back to her Irish immigrant great-grandfather. At nine, she was already a star - yet still an innocent child who loved to play hide-and-seek with her cousins at the family home in Big Sur. It was during one of those games that she disappeared. Some may have considered her a pampered princess, but Cate was in fact a smart, scrappy fighter, and she managed to escape her abductors. Callan Cooper was shocked to find the bloodied, exhausted girl huddled in his house.

Revisado: 03-12-19
The book was very interesting and it was a surprise the Massey case was included in the book. I read "Rape in Paradise" the account as told by a reporter from the Star Bulletin newspaper, many years ago. It still hurts, and still there is a stigma against the local people.
Read this book as it's good story of Honolulu and the timeline.
Audible please get someone who at least can pronounce the Hawaiian words. Nothing against this lady but it's hard to listen to someone through the whole book who can't even pronounce "Ewa" correctly.

Historia
The powerful debut novel from Alan Brennert, Moloka’i tells the story of Rachel Kalama, a seven-year-old Hawaiian girl who contracts leprosy and is quarantined on the island of Moloka’i during the 1890s. Separated from her family and forced to grow up in the leper colony of Kalaupapa, Rachel experiences intense isolation. But she remains strong, finding moments of joy, and even love. Rich in Hawaiian history, this novel proves itself a stellar piece of historical fiction.

Ho`o mai ka`i (Praise) - Audible and Alan Brennert
Revisado: 03-05-19
After finishing this book and then listening to the second book I had to take a couple of days to clarify all of my feelings and emotions that I had while listening to these books. I had a tech problems with the first download and with the wonderful help from Audible they fixed it and I was able to continue with the books.
Mr. Brennert told a heart felt story that touch many things that happen at the beginning of what happen to the Kama'aina (native), Pake (Chinese), Kepani (Japanese) people who contacted Hansen disease. How hard all of them were treated and shunned from everyone. As I listen to Aunty Noelani talk story (as we say) it brought back many memories of my `ohana and a lot of the stories they told us as we were growing up. About the overthrow of our kingdom. How Queen Liliuokalani was imprisoned in her own palace at the time of the overthrow. How our lands were taken away and the Hawaiian people were treated as second class citizens. I heard from my Japanese grandmother about the trolley from Kalihi to Waikiki and the manapua man that use to walk around with a bamboo stick on his shoulders with two pots hanging from his stick on either side of him. As Aunty Noelani continued her story of Rachel, all of these memories came back to me.
I listen as Rachel went on her first Lurlene boat right and looked at my Hawaiian grandfather's picture of his first Lurlene ship ride to the mainland and the stories he told us of seeing the mainland for the first time. The one thing that I told my family is I feel sorry for my grandchildren (mo'opuna) who live here in the mainland and are not able to go as often as the would like back home. They can not get the same feeling as living there. They cannot get the kani ka pila (music jam session) or talk story with their other ohana (which is a big ohana). But I am teaching my little granddaughters our language and the hula as I want them to remember their heritage. The older ones au`we!
I would like to say mahalo nui loa (thank you very much) to Mr. Brennert for writing two wonderful books and taking us holo-holo with him to Waimanalo, Kalihi, Molokai, Maui and the mainland. I don't want to give to much away but the answer given to the question "What is it to being Hawaiian? Mr. Brennert gave a great answer! For a haole to understand the depth of our connection to the `aina is a good thing! Through these books I laughed and cried for Rachel, Ruth, and their story. I laughed and cried for the changes we see in our world today. We are the people of the aina! Ua mau ke Ea O ka Aina I Ka Pono - The life of the land is perpetuated in righteousness.
Mahalo to the two Aunties who spoke with correct pronunciation of our language.
Aloha nui loa,
Dawn

Historia
It’s rumoured that Dickens wanted to return to his classic novel Oliver Twist, to bring him back into a later book as an older character, but he never managed this before he died. However, if Oliver had returned, what would he have been like? Would the scars of his childhood affect the man he would become? And what of ‘Dodger’, sent to a land halfway around the world, his friend, mentor and master dead because of Oliver? Dodge & Twist is that story. The tale of two boys, 12 years later, returning into each other’s lives - for both good and bad.
