Historia
The execution of a Vatican archivist within the shadow of the Kremlin exposes a conspiracy going back three centuries—to the bloody era of the Russian Tsars. Before his murder, he manages to dispatch a coded message, a warning of a terrifying threat, one tied to a secret buried within the Golden Library of Tsars, a vast and treasured archive that had vanished into history.

Better to read than listen
Revisado: 08-22-24
Unfortunately, the narrator is not very dynamic to keep the story in its proper frame. There is not very much inflection to determine when, where, urgenices in story and so forth. There is a bit to be desired in the post production as well in that the listener can hear corrections in the audio where it sounds completely different (from a quiet room then to what sounds like a recording in an echoed hallway). I will jot be able to finish after 5 hours in. This is a return for me.

Historia
Kevin Mitnick was the most elusive computer break-in artist in history. He accessed computers and networks at the world’s biggest companies—and however fast the authorities were, Mitnick was faster, sprinting through phone switches, computer systems, and cellular networks. He spent years skipping through cyberspace, always three steps ahead and labeled unstoppable.

This is an eye opening first hand account of social engineering at its finest. A true study in the human condition to be socially accepted when facing simple questions, ultimately to the extent of revealing vital information about oneself or a company secrets.

Historia
The Goldfinch is a haunted odyssey through present-day America and a drama of enthralling force and acuity. It begins with a boy. Theo Decker, a 13-year-old New Yorker, miraculously survives an accident that kills his mother. Abandoned by his father, Theo is taken in by the family of a wealthy friend. Bewildered by his strange new home on Park Avenue, disturbed by schoolmates who don't know how to talk to him, and tormented above all by his unbearable longing for his mother, he clings to one thing that reminds him of her: a small, mysteriously captivating painting that ultimately draws Theo into the underworld of art.

Why a Pulitzer prize?
Revisado: 10-11-19
This story was way too long and drawn out. There was just too much conversation and no real draw to want to listen (or read) after about 1/2 way into the book. I did finish it, but felt it wasted my time.

Historia
In the chaos following World War II, the US government faced many difficult decisions, including what to do with the Third Reich's scientific minds. These were the brains behind the Nazis' once-indomitable war machine. So began Operation Paperclip, a decades-long, covert project to bring Hitler's scientists and their families to the United States. Many of these men were accused of war crimes, and others had stood trial at Nuremberg; one was convicted of mass murder and slavery.

Historia
Peter Schweizer explains how a new corruption has taken hold, involving larger sums of money than ever before. Stuffing tens of thousands of dollars into a freezer has morphed into multibillion-dollar equity deals done in the dark corners of the world. President Donald Trump’s children have made front pages for their dicey transactions. However, the media has barely looked into questionable deals made by those close to Barack Obama, Joe Biden, John Kerry, Mitch McConnell, and lesser-known politicians who have been in the game longer.

Not Peter S.'s best work. He does call out both sides for their back door channels to wealth and power, but it seems more like the beginnings of an in depth investigation than a complete story that begins a change.

Historia
Master Sergeant Changiz Lahidji served on Special Forces A teams longer than anyone in history, completing over a hundred combat missions in Afghanistan. Changiz is a Special Forces legend. He also happens to be the first Muslim Green Beret. Changiz served this country starting with Operation Eagle Claw in 1980, when he entered Tehran on a one-man mission to spy on Iranian soldiers guarding the US embassy where 52 US diplomats were being held hostage.

A soldier's story
Revisado: 02-19-18
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This is not a bad book. It chronicals Changiz Lahidji's career and missions over several decades with average storytelling. If you are looking for a story, then this is good. If you are looking for highly detailed battle descriptions then this is less likely to keep you interested, but it is worth the read or listen.
How could the performance have been better?
Unfortunately, the narrator sounds like an average man, maybe a teacher, or a lawyer, or a salesman. He does not sound convincing enough to have been in the military, so the soft well enunciated words with little inflection, to me, clearly took some authenticity out of the read.

Historia
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Andy Weir follows up nicely!
Revisado: 11-29-17
This is another well thought, high "science-ey" book from Andy Weir. The story moves along at a good pace and i like the main heroine(?) Jazz's attitude. She's a bit lawless, but has a heart. A bit mischeivius but has a conscience. Although she may, or may not get into trouble she eventually does what is morally right.

DaVinci Code 2
Revisado: 10-11-17
I liked this book, but it was very predictable. As I listened, I could easily see the outline for Davinci Code sitting on a work desk, being filled in with different charcter names but many of the same charater outlines.
Please don't get me wrong, Dan Brown books are strongly written, well researched and simply fun to read or listen to. If you are a Dan Brown fan, which I certainly am then this book will meet your expectations.
