Historia
The groundbreaking trans-genre work of Argentinian writer Jorge Luis Borges (1899-1986) has been insinuating itself into the structure, stance, and very breath of world literature for well over half a century. Multi-layered, self-referential, elusive, and allusive writing is now frequently labelled Borgesian.

Spoken in just the tone I like to hear Borges.

The translation is superb, and I and wish it were a more extensive group of stories. He has been imitated by so many South American writers yet none can duplicate his talent. The story “Return of The Gods” reminds me of Kafka.

You can draw your own conclusions about living in a matrix. The part about DMT and methatonin was cool.

Historia
Following the disastrous Java Sea campaign, the Allies went on the offensive in the Pacific in a desperate attempt to halt the Japanese forces that were rampaging across the region. With the conquest of Australia a very real possibility, the stakes were high. Their target: the Japanese-held Soloman Islands, in particular the southern island of Guadalcanal. Hamstrung by arcane pre-war thinking and a bureaucratic mind-set, the US Navy had to adapt on the fly in order to compete with the mighty Imperial Japanese Navy, whose ingenuity had fostered the creation of its Pacific empire.

Covers so much Naval and ground combat, maybe too much about Naval aviators.
Revisado: 11-22-21
The narrator has an ear for irony. The author could have spent less time describing the pilots from the Enterprise and more on Marine aviators on Guadalcanal, the tip of the spear. My father flew in Joe Foss’ squadron, VMF 212 and only 4 men from the original squadron survived the war.

I’ve travelled the upper Amazon in Ecuador and the descriptions of the forest (it’s not a jungle) are hauntingly familiar. We travelled by dugout canoe, catching piranha with a hand line to eat. Only one contact with the natives, they gave us some flesh from a giant fish 7 feet long.

Historia
In The German Aces Speak II, Heaton and Lewis paint a picture of the war through the eyes of four more of Germany's most significant pilots, put together from numerous interviews personally conducted by Heaton from the 1980s through the 2000s. The four ex-Luftwaffe fighter aces bring the past to life as they tell their stories about the war, their battles, their off-duty lives, their lives after the war, and perhaps most importantly, how they felt about serving under the Nazi leadership of Hermann Göring and Adolf Hitler.

My father was a Mariine fighter pilot in WWll but he didn’t like talking about killing people so I truly enjoyed these true stories about the German aces. They were actually nice guys who didn’t like the Nazis at all.
