This was the first book by L.J. Shen that I encountered. I listened to it about a year ago and have since bought the audiobook and listened a few additional times. I'm all about angst in books and this one has it. Along with the angst, it has the perfect amount of banter to top it off.

Some of my favorite things about this book are
1) The letters Maddie reads from her mother each morning. The tidbits about flowers are actually really interesting, but the messages her mom writes are just beautiful.
2) Maddie's personality. She doesn't let Chase walk all over her. She holds her grounds and lays down her expectations, never wavering with what she expects in return of the favors she's giving him.
3) The love Chase has for his family, and Maddie. He's just such a great guy under that tough exterior.
4) This entire book. The way Chase found Maddie working her way into his life only to attempt to shut it down and ending up alone was something else. It was as if he's so used to having the ladies chase after him, no matter what. When Maddie appears to be moving on, it wasn't what Chase was expecting in the slightest. For him to ask (more like demand) she play into his rouse telling his family they are engaged was ballsy on his part. Especially given the fact that she didn't come running back after he sent her packing 6 months ago. But when his family gushes about her, and tragedy strikes their family, he's willing to overlook that fact and run back to her instead.

I know without a doubt, this will continue to be one of my go to books. I just love it that much. I get so many emotions while listening to the audiobook. Sebastian York is the ultimate cocky businessman narrator. I love his voice and the way he portrays these characters. Ava Erickson is the perfect strong independent woman that gives as well as she gets. These two together are always a perfect pair.

First of all, I love Brit Benson. She's such a great author. Her books always tend to break me down into a million pieces then put me back together again. For Wrath and Redemption was no except.

Mollie was the perfect Claire. She brought Claire to life in a way I didn't think possible. If you've read the Next Life series by Brit, you've been introduced to Claire and probably don't really care for her. Some may say they hate her. This book was her story of why she did what she did and what's come of her life since it hit the fan. Mollie allowed me to jump into the role of Claire and feel for her to a depth I just wanted to hug her the entire story.

Jason Clarke... what can I say about Jason other than I love his voice to death. It's so raw and real. He can narrate as a college student, and older business man, or a struggling famous guitarist. No matter what, he's on point and hits the nail on the head without blinking an eye. When Jonah was being a jerk, Jason portrayed it perfectly. When Jonah was at his lowest of lows and super vulnerable, so was Jason.

These two narrators together was indescribable. It was like they were reading THEIR story rather than Claire and Jonah's. I would recommend this book, and this duo, in a heartbeat.

I really love this story. The only hiccup I had with this was the female narrator. She didn't come across as a college senior. Her voice is great, it's just more mature sounding for a college student.

Luck made them meet each other
Fate brought them back together
Destiny kept them encountering each other over the years

Perfect narrators for these characters. They make you FEEL the story the entire book.

I recently listened to the audio version of this book (not my first time) and realized I never posted a review so here I am! For starters, if Teddy Hamilton is narrating, I’m listening. He narrates a lot of Ashley’s book and I couldn’t be happier about that. He’s the perfect narrator. Lila Winters is good, but I struggle with her attitude while narrating Sawyer’s parts. Maybe that was the intention but I wasn’t a huge fan. I still give this book 5 stars though. For everything.

I loved this book. I was able to read the ARC before the release but just had to listen to the audio version when it was released today. It did not disappoint! Both narrators were perfect. The way they added personality to the characters was on point. Love it!

It was a bit hard for me to get into this book but I think it’s because I had just finished another strained marriage book and needed a change of scenery. After about 20% of the book, I read a different trope and came back to this after. Needless to say, that’s exactly what I needed and I devoured the rest of the book in no time.

Romeo is cold and off putting at first. He hates everyone and everything. He wants revenge on those that have wronged him throughout his life. He had a very rough childhood and his father is a vile man. Not really a reason for him to be downright awful towards Dallas.

Dallas is an innocent southern bell that has the life goal of getting married, having kids and being a loving mother and wife. Romeo throws her entire life into shambles when he sets his sights on her. He never wants kids. He knows he has to marry but never plans to actually be with his wife. Physically, intimately, or even cohabiting.

Through Dallas’s way of getting under his skin, and Romeo’s way of pushing his own boundaries, these two are destined to fuse together in every way they can. It’s not without pushback, revealing their truths, and baring their all to the other.

Great story. I loved how strong Dallas was. I also loved her aversion to healthy foods and working out. A woman I can relate to!

I feel like the narrators fit the characters great. I also enjoy the story.

🏒 Hockey romance
👥 Accidental college roommates/forced proximity
💃 Ballet dancer
👫 Fake Dating

Claire is staying in the dorms at Bexley U and quickly learns her roommate is none other than Theo Brooks, one of the infamous Bexley U hockey players. Turns out, admissions mixed her name up, thinking it was Bryant Claire, and paired her up with Theo in the dorms. Unfortunately, there aren't any empty rooms for either of them to relocate so they're stuck together

Claire's boyfriend is not happy about this but isn't dissatisfied enough to allow her to move in with him. Theo isn't dating anyone and wants to keep it that way so he can fully focus on hockey and being the best for the NHL draft.

At first the two have a rocky start, until Claire comes up with her roommate rules list. Theo amends a few of the rules before agreeing to them. It seems to work for them, for the most part.

Theo finds himself at a party and sees a familiar face, making out with some random girl. He recognizes the face as Claire's boyfriend. At first he doesn't want to tell her but makes mention of him not being faithful to her. Claire doesn't believe it but then sees it with her own eyes when she shows up at a party she'd typically never attend. At that moment, Claire and Theo help each other out. He wants to fake date her so she show her now ex that she's stronger than he thinks she is. She's willing to fake date him so he isn't propositioned by so many puck bunnies (yeah right).

This story was a fun one with an interesting twist at the end. When I first read this book (I've since listened to the audio book a few times), I honestly didn't predict that turn of events but was totally happy with it.

I love this book. My only reason for the 4 stars for performance is the female narrator sounds a bit older than I pictured the FMC in this book.

I really struggled with the narrator for this book. The MMC is supposed to be this hard ex-con but the narrator doesn't sound close to that. There wasn't a female narrator so he was both characters. Not a fan.
