Historia
When a man dressed in a long priest’s robe and wearing a black ecclesiastical hat walked into a Catholic church just prior to a funeral service, stuffed garlic into the deceased’s mouth, and pumped a bullet into the corpse, NYPD Homicide Detective Louis Martelli was as puzzled as he’s ever been on a case. No stranger to the macabre, Martelli is even more mystified by Deputy Coroner Michael Antonetti’s findings, which confirm that the deceased, far from having died of respiratory failure and a possible heart attack, was murdered by someone who injected him with a lethal dose of Philippine cobra venom.

A Wild Ride
Revisado: 09-11-20
This high action detective story will keep you entertained. Have some patients with the beginning where the storyline dragged and the dialog seemed forced. Also, the reader seemed a little too enthusiastic. However, all aspects of the story quickly mesh into an imaginative, exciting story.

Someone tries to burn him alive, beats the hell out of him, and, since that didn't run him off, uses him for target practice. Meanwhile, two people are murdered, Nick's true love, Maggie Atley, is more than somewhat perturbed by his relationship with his client, and a mysterious club seems to hold the answer. Nick survives another losing season by his beloved Chicago Cubs, a vicious attack by a couple of huge dogs, and eventually puts the finger on the bad guys.

High Action Mystery
Revisado: 07-23-20
If you enjoy Philip Marlowe, Sam Spade, and Nathan Heller, then you will like Nick Bancroft. Keep the pages turning as he bobs, weaves, and spins through vicious dogs, murderous villains, and erotic damsels in distress. All the while, he never takes his eye off the prize -- the mystery of "the club" which controls the town.
The narration is excellent.

Historia
Mat Karney knew the score in Toltec Valley. A man needed enough land and water for his cattle or he was through. When Mat's neighbor, Big Tom Parks, began sneaking in nesters, a showdown was inevitable. Especially when Parks had the Law in his vest pocket. But Mat never figured that the blow-off would have the savage ferocity of a maddened herd on a rampage. Nor did he expect to find himself hunted by hardcases and deputies alike.

Gritty Western
Revisado: 07-16-20
An adventure full of grit and gun play from the western frontier. Fast paced and full of colorful characters. However, I found the non-stop daisy chain of metaphors to be smoke obscuring the plot like a morning fog on the meadow hides the deer from the hunter's eyes.

Historia
This SF pulp magazine classic of a female space pirate was a huge hit with readers when it was first serialized in Amazing Stories during the early 1940s. Golden Age pulp editor and author Raymond A. Palmer's masterwork mixes romance, interplanetary conflict, space piracy, and exotic alien worlds into the unique blend that is so emblematic of the science fiction of the period. Black World begins when John Carver of the Stellar Patrol falls for playgirl heiress Ina Malden on the luxury spaceliner Josephine, en route to the outer worlds.

Historia
First time in audiobook form, this "lost" Louis L'Amour novel, published in three parts in the old pulp magazines during the 1950s, showcases the story of the settling of the west in the lives and loves of the riders of the Tumbling K ranch. Once again, Louis L'Amour delivers an unforgettable novel of men and women facing the raw challenges of the range land. Ward McQueen and Kim Sartain are friends and hands on the Tumbling K ranch. One will find love with its passionate owner, Ruth Kermett.

Three short stories

Each story is a standalone read, but they share some common themes. While not Louis L'Amour's best work, these are good reads for aficionados.

Every desperate housewife wants an alias. Donna Stone has one - and it happens to be government-sanctioned. But Donna earned it the hard way: Her husband was killed the day she delivered their third child. To avenge her husband's murder, Donna leads a secret life as an assassin. But espionage makes for strange bedfellows, and brings new meaning to that old adage, "Honey, I'm home...."

Any additional comments?
This is a delightful romping adventure. If you know who Stephanie Plumb is, and if you wish she was more violent and more erotic, then you will like Donna Stone. This heroine is a single mother working as an assassin. Needless to say, she typically lures her victims in with her body. The sexy scenes are hot enough that you will be glad that you dropped your daughter off before you started the book, but not so hot that you feel the need to hide the book under that mattress. The plot is predictable, but the story is told in a face-paced, exciting tone. The reader, Melissa Moran, provides a perfect performance as she brings the story to life. I just don’t know how I would have made that last 100 miles without Josie Brown’s story. I will certainly buy the next one in the series when it is released.

The best-selling author of the Alienist series returns with a chilling elaboration on the Sherlock Holmes canon, as the famed detective investigates a pair of gruesome murders, which cast an otherworldly shadow as far as Queen Victoria herself.

Rather disappointed
Revisado: 09-03-15
Any additional comments?
I’ve enjoyed Caleb Carr’s writing before, but in this book he seemed to stretch a bit too far. In his zeal to match the writing style of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes series, Mr. Carr forgot to include a plot. This book is five hours of droning narrative with an hour and a half of simplistic mystery.
Simon Prebble remained consistent with his superb reading skill. The only reason that I listen to the entire book was because I was enjoying Mr. Prebble’s performance.

Historia
A year after young engineering student Rip Cantrell discovered the first flying saucer buried deep in the sands of the Sahara, another saucer is brought up from the bottom of the Atlantic. The recovery is funded by a pharmaceutical executive who believes that the saucer holds the key to an anti-aging drug formula that space travelers would need to voyage between galaxies. But one of his technicians, Adam Solo, an alien marooned on Earth for a thousand years, steals the saucer, hoping to summon a starship to rescue him.

Not as good as the first two
Revisado: 08-14-14
Any additional comments?
This is the third book of the series and if you haven’t read the previous two you will have a tough time catching up. I bought this because I enjoyed the others and while it is an enjoyable read it is not as interesting/exciting as the previous two.
