When men pen books geared at women, a side eye is my gut reaction, especially given all the toxic so-called dating experts pandering to the sexes and creating more division. However, I needed a light listen while multitasking and was pleasantly surprised that this wasn't a mansplaining, demeaning, or basic book at all. The author really seems to care about women and their success and goes about breaking down the good girl trope that's left so many empty handed while also honoring that goodness in a way society doesn't. He doesn't pit men against women, nor women against women--he puts you in competition only with your own self really. There are some odd skit interludes that I suppose are included to jazz things up a bit, so one star off for those, but the virtual voice reader isn't robotic thankfully, and overall, I appreciated the layers this book sought to peel back from the external, to the internal, to the ancestral.
