Historia
On an island off the coast of Ireland, guests gather to celebrate two people joining their lives together as one. The groom: handsome and charming, a rising television star. The bride: smart and ambitious, a magazine publisher. It’s a wedding for a magazine or for a celebrity: the designer dress, the remote location, the luxe party favors, the boutique whiskey. The cell phone service may be spotty and the waves may be rough, but every detail has been expertly planned and will be expertly executed.

Historia
Author of the National Book Award-winning All the Pretty Horses, Cormac McCarthy is one of the most provocative American stylists to emerge in the last century. The striking novel Blood Meridian offers an unflinching narrative of the brutality that accompanied the push west on the 1850s Texas frontier.

😕👎🏼
Revisado: 01-08-20
I have enjoyed the poetic prose of McCarthy’s other books. I did NOT like this one. I am actually a bit angry at the colossal waste of time I have already spent trying to like this book. The text drones on and on like the narration of some drug-induced dream. The only thing that stands out in this novel are the brutality and savagery of the characters, which are ill formed. Go ahead and skip this one.

Historia
Faced with a choice between bad-boy detective Dean Ryker and sexy power player Parker Anderson, Sage Reece fought the law - and the law won. But while Ryker's sizzling touch may rule her nights, Sage's days belong to Parker's cool, calculating intensity.... Both Ryker and Parker are determined to protect Sage from a brutal enemy who'd use her to pay for their mistakes. Yet when the usually on-point Ryker is distracted by ghosts from his past, Parker seizes his opportunity to get Sage's attention - and keep it in ways beyond her wildest dreams.

Getting old
Revisado: 11-01-15
The confused and helpless heroine lost in a love triangle of her own making story is old and overplayed. The fact that it appears two fold throughout this entire book makes the read nauseatingly predictable. I rolled my eyes quite a bit in this book.

Historia
The Poisonwood Bible is a story told by the wife and four daughters of Nathan Price, a fierce, evangelical Baptist who takes his family and mission to the Belgian Congo in 1959. They carry with them everything they believe they will need from home, but soon find that all of it - from garden seeds to Scripture - is calamitously transformed on African soil. What follows is a suspenseful epic of one family’s tragic undoing and remarkable reconstruction over the course of three decades in postcolonial Africa.

Cultural Education
Revisado: 08-08-12
This is a very popular book, and the majority of it is very well written. Kingsolver does and amazing job outlining the wildlife and bush around the Congo, and it paints a picture about as near to the real thing as you can get. I would have liked to see further development of some of the characters, the mother and father especially. These two pillars of the story bring a lot of emotional baggage with them, and while the consequences of their actions are very clear, I would have liked to be provided with better picture of their motives. A more developed back story for these two characters would have made me appreciate their impact more.
Overall, the author leaves the reader with a palatable understanding of the complexity and emotional toll that American missionaries, especially those in equatorial Africa, face on a day-to-day basis. Kingsolver describes the cultural, language, and general everyday living differences between American and Congolese people with extraordinary clarity.

Why we think it’s a great listen: A performance so poignant, we gave Bronson Pinchot (yes, Balki from Perfect Strangers) our inaugural Narrator of the Year award.... In the monsoon season of 1968-69 at a fire support base called Matterhorn, located in the remote mountains of Vietnam, a young and ambitious Marine lieutenant wants to command a company to further his civilian political ambitions. But two people stand in his way.

Definately Memorable
Revisado: 08-08-12
This was, by far, the best book of the Fifty Shades Series. While Becca Battoe was not my favorite narrator for the characters in the books, she seems much too immature and therefore off-putting for some of these explicit scenes, my ears and mind adapted to her voice over time. This final book allows the two main characters to mature in your head more than the first two, and I really started to feel their stories by the end. Don't get me wrong, there is absolutely nothing sappy about this book, and if you are looking for some educational scenes, it will not disappoint, but I didn't feel like FFF was as raunchy as the first two books. If you have already started the series, I encourage you to make it through to this one because it does get better in the end, and, overall, I wasn't disappointed.

Historia
On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

Historia
Before Liz Lemon, before Weekend Update, before Sarah Palin, Tina Fey was just a young girl with a dream: A recurring stress dream that she was being chased through a local airport by her middle-school gym teacher. She also had a dream that one day she would be a comedian on TV. She has seen both these dreams come true. At last, Tina Fey's story can be told. From her youthful days as a vicious nerd to her tour of duty on Saturday Night Live. Tina Fey reveals all, and proves what we've always suspected: You're no one until someone calls you bossy.
