Historia
Belissar has always lived a peaceful life, if not a particularly easy one. Though he lost his parents, he was taken in by a kindly villager who taught him his life's calling: beekeeping. But one day the local lord's ruthless son, Ruckanos, comes to their humble village to claim his own tower, slaughtering everyone. Luckily for Belissar, as he lies dying with an arrow in his back, a tiny worker bee decides to interfere, and he wakes up not only alive but a whole new bee-ing.

A silly little Bee story, but addictive
Revisado: 04-11-25
I thought this was a rather stupid story at first, and the MC a wet rag but I kinda got to like him after a while, although he couldn’t make a decision to save his life. He does grow up and evolve during the story so there’s that.
The Bees are the extremely silly element of the story and I suddenly realised when only an hour was left that I actually got engrossed in the little Bee rivalries and intrigue, small as it was.
So I’ve given the story 4 stars.
Narration was really good and easy to differentiate between characters.

The City of Inventions, Pallass, is a fascinating place. Erin Solstice is on a break from her inn. Not for long; she's returning with more Skills, but she has changed. She will return with her usual chaos and wonder, but always differently. Now, there are flames and... a garden?

Middling cozy series
Revisado: 03-20-25
Updated review:
So now I’ve listened to the whole series I’ve decided that the writing is at least 3 stars but not quite 4. It’s still worth reading but due to infuriating number of audio issues, skipping lines and sometimes it seams whole paragraphs, screeching electronics sounds and more, I cannot up the narration to 3 or more stars and I’m not sure I’d recommend you buy this audio boxset.
The narrator has her issues - see earlier review below - but she does keep most of the characters easily identifiable and most of the voices are good.
————-
Admittedly I’m only half way through but besides this being a typical cozy which series, more or less a dime a dozen, the narration drags it down.
I keep thinking the narrator is drunk while reading as there is so much drawl and slurred words and it is very difficult at times to understand what she’s saying. I had to slow the narration down to 0.9 just to have a chance.
There are a number of audio issues as well, especially around the half way point of the audiobook. A few times I couldn’t parse what was being said but thankfully it was nothing of importance to the storyline.
If you don’t mind the narration the series is a typical fast listen

Historia
The world fell, the invaders won, and demons now ruled what had once been man's domain. The great works of a once powerful civilization lie in ruins, its people having forgotten the wonders of their forefathers as they now live in the yoke. Not everyone is willing to go quietly into the endless night, however. Human pests still infest occasional parts of the conquered world. In one nearly uninhabitable part of that world, a very young such pest has come of age and, without understanding what it means, she walks in the shadow of destiny.

This is an OK series, nothing spectacular but unique enough and well written enough to warrant 4 stars.

An OK ending to an OK series
Revisado: 03-19-25
It’s an interesting premise for a series and in many ways unique to what I’ve read and or listened to through the years.
It hints at a specific religion without laying too heavy on it and with a twist that was to my mind OK.
I avoid religious propaganda in books and this series passed that test.
3 stars due to a rushed ending that could have been executed much better.

A very decent series - well worth the credit
Revisado: 03-12-25
I bought this series as I was waiting for the next book in another series by this author and decided to give it a chance. I was not disappointed.
The series is quite good and well thought out, with twists and turns and plots galore. The MC is mostly relatable, the other characters well thought out as well and I was kept guessing quite often. In addition, this is the complete series which you can buy for just 1 credit and I would absolutely recommend you buy the series if you enjoy progression fantasies, LitRPG’s or similar genres.
This is not a groundbreaking epic series so I was on the fence with 5 stars, but a strong 4 is where I’d land at.
Now the narration.
There are some excellent voices and for the most part it’s quite well narrated. There are a few times when the “wrong character voice” is used and there are some times I almost zoned out during the narration, but for the most part quite decent. I’d rank it at 4 stars as well.

A dilemma for Penric & Desdemona
Revisado: 02-18-25
I like everything except the length of the stories in the P&D series, they are way too short.
Lois is a master storyteller and spins a really smart yarn with reflected characters.
The dilemma Penric and Desdemona found themselves in was discussed and solved in a very satisfactory way.
I just find LMB’s stories such a delight and treat and do not get tired of them.
Grover Gardner is the perfect narrator for her style of writing.

Very heavy on the politics
Revisado: 02-17-25
The book is quite heavy on politics, conversations and positioning and with a multitude of characters which we saw in the last book or the one before that or even earlier as well as a number of new characters. Maybe it was the flu, but I struggled to keep it all separated in my head and remember who was who and if they were in the last volume or not.
The actions were mostly spiritual walking and even though they are interesting I just felt it was a very dual tone book, converse with spirits and get enlightenment and play politics with mortals.
Not my favourite book in the series but still well written.

The Beginning After the End: Publisher's Pack 2 contains books 3 and 4 of The Beginning After the End series, Beckoning Fates and Horizon's Edge. Though Arthur Leywin would like nothing more than to pursue his studies at the esteemed Xyrus Academy, where he hopes to push his already potent magical abilities to new plateaus and perhaps discover something more about his reincarnation into this world, he finds the politics of the school’s halls even more challenging to navigate than those of the council chambers he once inhabited as King Grey.

An engaging story but always damn cliffhangers
Revisado: 01-28-25
So, the good first. The overall story and plots with twists is a very engaging one. The characters evolve plausibly and the MC with his incongruous age and maturity does so as well.
The progression of our MC is almost explosive but he does have some true fortune falling into his lap from an early age which he hasn’t truly tapped into yet. It is also interesting to follow the dynamic between him and Tess
Every book so dar ends in a damn cliffhanger and I feel like it could have been avoided. I don’t like cliffhangers personally and even though I’ve bought all published audiobooks in the series and listened once already, I still find it annoying. So hence the 4 stars for story.
Travis does a better job with the younger female voices in these two books.
Well worth the credit and worth recommending.

Historia
I never believed in the whole “light at the end of the tunnel” folly where people, after having a near-death experience, would startle awake in a cold sweat exclaiming, “I saw the light!” But there I was, in this so-called “tunnel” facing a glaring light, when the last thing I remembered was sleeping in my room - the royal bed-chamber, as others called it. Had I died? If so, how? King Grey once benefited from unrivaled strength, wealth, and prestige in a world governed by martial ability but now finds himself reborn in a society dominated by magic.

Very interesting series
Revisado: 01-27-25
This is my second listen and I still like it as much as I did the first time around.
The MC is reincarnated with all his old memories intact from his previous life, although he only lived to 38. As a result he is now way too mature for his new life and the incongruity is an interesting take.
I find all the characters relatable, even the not so palatable characters. The MC is very likeable and grows on me as the story progresses.
Travis Baldree is one of my favourite narrators and I’m a fan of his works, but the young girl voices in this narration (children to tweens) are in need of polishing, hence the 4 star review.
The value for money with 2 books in 1 is great and absolutely worth getting.
