The book summed up...
Revisado: 01-12-23
The entire point of this book is to say: There is a problem when the pursuit of "good doctrine" or knowledge or certainty is prioritized above just trusting God regardless of our ability to understand.

Historia
Being an unwanted twin in the Imperial line of succession, Farilane became a scholar, adventurer, and in a time when reading was once more forbidden—a book hunter. Her singular obsession is finding the mythical Book of Brin, a tome not just lost but intentionally buried. Respected and beloved by the Teshlor Knights, not even their legendary skills can protect her for what she finds is more dangerous than what she sought.

Not the norm... and enjoyed it.
Revisado: 10-02-22
This book was not the normal in the line of books Michael produces. What I enjoyed most was the connection made to a very old and timeless struggle we all possess: to live for oneself to the detriment of others who are happily unaware of how our decisions are ultimately negatively affecting their lives, or to live self sacrificially for others.
The drama surrounding the two main characters in the end were very well played out (and quite dramatic). Even though both sacrifices (because it was a sacrifice for both) were ultimately and handsomely rewarded, they were both bittersweet, and neither were able or willing to enjoy the reward.
It was all very realistic in the sense that we all follow this same philosophical struggle...
Those who have their cake and eat it too often do so at the expense of others. Those who have their cake and share it with the world are often unrewarded... unless the reward is that others are better off for it.

Historia
A century ago very few people dreamed of space travel. Today it is the most daring and technologically sophisticated quest ever undertaken, being driven not just by government agencies such as NASA and ESA, but also by visionaries such as Richard Branson (Virgin Galactic), Elon Musk (SpaceX) and Jeff Bezos (Blue Origin). To mark the 50th anniversary of the 1969 moon landing, this major drama-documentary series charts the definitive story of the past, present and future of humankind’s exploration of space. The Space Race is narrated by Kate Mulgrew and features a full cast.

Great way to present the space race of our times and beyond
Revisado: 07-26-20
I enjoyed learning about the space race of our times and what is to come. It provided a very top level view of the subject. The dramatization of hypothetical and real stories were very interesting and provided another angle with which to look at the subject.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared....

Great story and performance - but not great for me
Revisado: 11-01-15
Story was great and well written. Performance was good for this story. Only I wasn't terribly attached to the subject matter - which is a personal assessment not to be considered for your judgement. This is why my overall rating is 4 stars rather than 5.

Expected more
Revisado: 03-23-15
I'm not sure if it was just hard to follow, but as an American tech enthusiast who doesn't much follow sci-fi, it didn't live up to the hype I've heard from it. It seemed to be a randomly devised set of events leading nowhere. That may have been the point. I bet others would enjoy it, but I didn't much care for it. The narrator was pretty easy to listen to though.

Listened twice
Revisado: 03-11-15
Listened to all the Riyira series twice. I've never read or listened to books anything like this. The closest thing I've come to a story at all similar is watching Lord of the Rings. This was interesting, and the two main characters are worth following. Not something I would recommend to anyone I know, but I'm not an experienced listener or reader of fiction so I don't know how good these series really were.
