Co-President character is annoying

The book is fine, good battle scenes and continuation of cultural differences given the 100 year time lapse, great narrator, but one character is, imho, not written well and that is the "Co-President." Her role is predictable in the worst way and its gotten to the point I just roll my eyes and turn down the volume if I know a scene will focus on her.

Unconvincing storyline, wish the autbor had either taken the time to make it believable or just written her out or down. The rest of the book is fine, but based in that character I hesitate to continue with the series if I thought she'd be in it.

I am a huge fan of this series, and these authors independantly, and had looked forward to this novel. However, I found it dissapointing... Too much time spent on Constance, imo, which included placing her in an unlikely situation in the past. I have not liked the way her character has progressed as she gains more involvement in the present, but can't say I enjoyed the way she is presented in the past. I in fact began to skip over chapters describing, overly long (again, imo), her activities in the past...

Once all the characters that mattered were in the same historical period, again, dissapointed, especially with the person Constance has turned out to be. She reacts in ways that makeite sense, basically describing a person I don't really care about. Also not happy with actions taken by Pendergast which make no sense to me...

Maybe written in haste (?). I don't know, but, least favorite in the series (outside of the novel sit in Florida with the shoes, feet included, appearingnin the river. Too easy to guess in that one and, again, I didn't like the person Constance was the info out to be).

Gosh, never thought I feel less than 5 stars about the Maddox Lost Starship series, but I struggled to even assign three stars to this one. Two sub- plots were so convoluted, disjointed, and seemingly without purpose that I coundt finish the book. And I * love * this series, have read all the other books, but this one did not work at all for me.

I was happy to see groundwork set for new plot lines in the future, and Mark did a fabulous job... as usual!

Even as a "Young Adult" novel, and I don't believe it is marked as such, this audible book is terrible. The female protagonist spends the entire story, a trip to Venus with a pilot and one, single anthropologist as company (so only three people total l, including her, on the ship - already the plot is unbelievable), to recover her adventurer Father lost some years earlier. Abd this woman, the lead protagonist, spends the entire novel wondering if the pilot want to bed her. Worse, this crew apparently did not think it necessary to train at all for this trip - every area of plot that could have been developed into a good story falls back on the worst kind of trite nonsense.

Couldn't finish it, too hard...

"Sample" misrepresents story...

The Sample depicted a family hastily preparing their 2 children for emergency evacuation to save them from some kind of global invasion... The 5 minute tickler promised a Sci Fi thriller juxtaposing escaping children and parents left to deal with ... we don't know what.

But what I got after buying was mech combat, no kids, no families, no intrigue. Chapter 2, same. Chapter 3... more of the same I gave up a couple of chapters later, repeats of the same (uninteresting, combat and (uninteresting) mechs.

I love Sci Fi and Space Opera, grand tales on a glactic scale. That is not what this was at least not for me. But the main dissapointment was Audible's misrepresentation of a military book (..which i usuailly love, e.g., Joshua Dalzelle) as a novel of more complexity.

Will return uncompleted.

Different narrator, not convincing for me...

I wish I'd played the Sample before purchasing because this third book has a different narrator from the earlier two... There was a switch from the first to the second, which I disliked but rolled with as the two voices were close enough I could still identity through characters. But now this completely different voice is used for third, and so very different from the the first two that I can't begin to identify the characters in either tone or inflection. He reads like he's new to it, needs a few more novels uder his belt.

I'll have to return the book...

Drags... predicable

Revisado: 08-11-21

For me, this book suffers from a predictable plot that drags... and drags, and drags. Predictability is fine, after all, most sci-fi is predictable, but that makes plot even more important. And the premise was fine - unauthorized cryogenic failures on a 600-year colonization flight - but it just drags, drags, drags (for me, anyway) I quit a few chapters in.

Voices too extreme for my taste. It is hard to be successful in novel narration, the voices should pu you into the story, not push you out...
