Historia
In 2059, two vastly different groups of people portrayed by the compelling trio of Brendan Fraser (Academy Award winner), Luke Kirby (Emmy Award winner), and Vanessa Sears (Dora Award winner) undergo cryonic suspension. While their bodies are frozen, their minds, still active and awake, are uploaded into a massive quantum computer. The first group are all astronauts, about to leave Earth on a one-way interstellar colonization mission. The second group consists of convicted murderers and volunteers who elect to serve their sentences in a virtual-reality prison.

Good idea, strong performances, unnecessarily preachy
Revisado: 04-11-24
I’m a fan of stories related to uploaded consciousness. This one had a strong premise. But it was held back by preachy sidebars unrelated to the story. It seemed obvious the author had a portion of the population he wanted to scold and used characters to do that. If not for that (and there was more of it than one might think), it is probably a four star story. As it stands, it has me reluctant to revisit Sawyer.

Historia
Two blood-spattered strangers awake, locked in the trunk of a car - with a murdered cop and the smoking gun. Aside from raging headaches and no idea what's happened, they appear to have nothing in common. Troy thinks it's 2001 and he's still a combat surgeon fighting terrorists in Afghanistan. Emmy believes it's 2002 and she's still grifting a living from the streets of L.A.

Good story … wrong narrator.
Revisado: 09-11-23
Story: original and entertaining, worth a listen.
Narrator; Dick Hill makes the main characters sound like they are 85. It’s particularly off putting with female characters described as very attractive. Only this male characters with heavy accents sounded reasonable. I suppose the accent overrides the aged sound. In any case, I’ve enjoyed Dick Hill as a narrator before. He’s just not right for this material.

Historia
When an experiment to study quantum uncertainty goes spectacularly wrong, physics student Bill Rustad and his friends find that they have accidentally created an inter-dimensional portal. They connect to Outland - an alternate Earth with identical geology, but where humans never evolved. The group races to establish control of the portal before the government, the military, or evildoers can take it away. Then everything changes when the Yellowstone supervolcano erupts in an explosion large enough to destroy civilization and kill half the planet.

Solid follow-up!
Revisado: 12-02-22
I enjoyed the story and performance and look forward to where it might go next. My only issue… and it’s a mild one… is that the lead character gets hysterical frequently, and often at odd times. I find myself thinking …’would ya just shut up and let them finish their sentence’. Some of the occasions are on the story and done on the performance. This is a minor quibble.

Revisado: 05-27-20
After flying through the three in the Bobiverse series and then getting into some other books by other authors... I decided to give The Singularity Trap a try. I had resisted to this point... wanting to save Dennis E Taylor and Ray Porter for the next Bobiverse. I didn’t think another would hold up. Keeping it succinct... I was wrong. I hope we will see a follow-up. Ray Porter was... as always... excellent.

Historia
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.
