Historia
The only life Tress has known on her island home in an emerald-green ocean has been a simple one, with the simple pleasures of collecting cups brought by sailors from faraway lands and listening to stories told by her friend Charlie. But when his father takes him on a voyage to find a bride and disaster strikes, Tress must stow away on a ship and seek the Sorceress of the deadly Midnight Sea. Amid the spore oceans where pirates abound, can Tress leave her simple life behind and make her own place sailing a sea where a single drop of water can mean instant death?

Going to Hell has never been on my bucket list...until now. The fact that I can speak that sentence without laughing or losing my mind is absurd. However, my life has veered into a very tricky tale that rivals any of my books. The villain has been banished. I’ve written her right into an infernal doom. Unfortunately, a few of my very dear friends, fictional and real, have been caught up in the horror story, and they’ve taken the trip down under as well. It’s my fault, and I can only see one way out...a plot twist of epic proportions.

I'm afraid not.
Revisado: 06-10-24
This one lost me, I'm afraid. The story went side ways and now everyone can write anything and it just happens. The side plots overtake the major plot and it just doesn't progress any for me.
I liked the first book and managed to get through the second, but this one lost it for me. I got all the way to the end of it, but it was a struggle.
I'm afraid the narration didn't work for me either :( I've tried a few of the books with the same performer before and I think she got a lot 'better' in the ones recorded later, but still not enough to save the story. With the storyline so frustrating, the narration just highlighted it for me. Neither could save the other.
I'm afraid I cannot get past the pacing and the breathy gaspy-ness of the delivery. It just ... well, it just doesn't work for me.

Historia
The youngest, half-goblin son of the Emperor has lived his entire life in exile, distant from the Imperial Court and the deadly intrigue that suffuses it. But when his father and three sons in line for the throne are killed in an "accident", he has no choice but to take his place as the only surviving rightful heir. Entirely unschooled in the art of court politics, he has no friends, no advisors, and the sure knowledge that whoever assassinated his father and brothers could make an attempt on his life at any moment.

The performance really made the book accessible
Revisado: 05-20-24
Don’t get me wrong. The story is epic, sweeping world building at its best. I loved the personalities and the intrigue is just enough for my tastes.
One of the things I find hard reading this kind of story ‘on paper’ is keeping the names straight. Having someone read it this well and with the seeming effortless ease of someone who’s known these names all their life, makes it so much more enjoyable. And accessible for those of us who read in small drips and drabs in between doing something else - thereby, of course, losing complete track of who’s who.
I thoroughly enjoyed it. First time and on a re-listen.

Historia
Worn out after decades of packing steel and raising hell, Viv, the orc barbarian, cashes out of the warrior’s life with one final score. A forgotten legend, a fabled artifact, and an unreasonable amount of hope lead her to the streets of Thune, where she plans to open the first coffee shop the city has ever seen. However, her dreams of a fresh start filling mugs instead of swinging swords are hardly a sure bet. Old frenemies and Thune’s shady underbelly may just upset her plans. To finally build something that will last, Viv will need some new partners, and a different kind of resolve.

Loved all of it.
Revisado: 02-06-24
There’s honestly nothing for me not to like.
The characters are beautifully rounded and flawed. The story told with the understanding that there is a lifetime of history for each one of them. And not all it is explained in exhaustive detail because that’s not how life works anyways.
I was worried about the narrator being the author - that doesn’t always work out. But here, it did.
A new all time fav.

Historia
Viv's career with the notorious mercenary company Rackam's Ravens isn't going as planned. Wounded during the hunt for a powerful necromancer, she's packed off against her will to recuperate in the sleepy beach town of Murk—so far from the action that she worries she'll never be able to return to it. What's a thwarted soldier of fortune to do? Spending her hours at a beleaguered bookshop in the company of its foul-mouthed proprietor is the last thing Viv would have predicted, but it may be both exactly what she needs and the seed of changes she couldn't possibly imagine.

I was unsure having loved the first one and worried that the ‘prequel’ would fall short. It doesn’t. It so doesn’t. The characters make sense - they do exactly what makes sense for them.

I was a top-notch Were agent for the secret paranormal Council and happily living in Chicago, where I had everything I needed - a gym membership, season tickets to the Cubs, and Dwayne - my gay Vampyre best friend. Going back now would mean facing the reason I'd left, and I'd rather chew my own paw off than deal with Hank. Hank the Tank Wilson was the six-foot-three, obnoxious, egotistical, perfect-assed, best-sex-of-my-life Werewolf who cheated on me and broke my heart.

Not the right narrator for this story perhaps
Revisado: 01-27-24
I like the narrator and have heard books from her before which I like. This one might not be it.
It’s not horrible, don’t get me wrong. It’s just the pacing or something doesn’t seem to gel with the content for me.
I don’t think I’ll be getting the rest of this series read by her. I might give another a try to see if that works better for me.

My least favourite of the nocturne falls universe stories
Revisado: 01-12-24
I’m afraid the story isn’t enough to cover the differences in lore between the original universe and the one created here. The other NF universe stories I’ve listened to manage this much better.
There’s just not enough narrative cohesion in this story for me - it jumps around w more and more new elements being added and established elements and characters dropped.
I’m afraid I’m not a fan.

I loved this story. It’s well written and well performed.
The characters are engaging and entertaining with good solid backstories and just the right amount of pathos to get sucked into their lives.

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.
