Once a gifted ballet dancer, Julia Costell buckled under the demands of a professional dance career, and has landed with a thud in an unglamorous job as a guidance counselor at a performing arts high school. In Dell’s writing, Julia sees luminous sparks of hope. But as she fights to forge a brighter future for one disadvantaged student, she's drawn into startling undercurrents of conflict and denial within the academy.

Didn't love this
Revisado: 12-15-23
I didn't know what to expect when I bought this book. While I was entertained, I was disappointed. There were some things in the story I could've lived without ever reading. I didn't feel like the main character had a very good value system and it's hard for me to read things where choices made are so contrary to my feelings about morality. In one particular scene, I was appalled at the choice that was made and felt that she must have had very little self worth to have agreed to such a situation. I wouldn't recommend this book.

Historia
Harry Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Then, on Harry's eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. An incredible adventure is about to begin!

Warbreaker is the story of two sisters, who happen to be princesses, the god king one of them has to marry, the lesser god who doesn’t like his job, and the immortal who’s still trying to undo the mistakes he made hundreds of years ago. Their world is one in which those who die in glory return as gods to live confined to a pantheon in Hallandren’s capital city and where a power known as BioChromatic magic is based on an essence known as breath that can only be collected one unit at a time from individual people.

Couldn't stop listening
Revisado: 06-07-23
I loved the story. I loved the characters--especially Siri (spelling?) and the God king. Vasher was an interesting character as well. Sanderson is very good at developing his characters. I read another review that said the sound effects were a bit loud, and I agree--there were a couple of parts where I noticed it was a little hard to hear the dialogue, but the story was so good I really didn't notice.

Historia
Isabella Shay is usually a very honest person. But when she's running late for her first day at a dream job and the barista yells for "Amy" three times with no answer, she does the unthinkable. Izzy takes that PSL. But when she turns around and runs directly into the most attractive man she's ever seen, spilling the drink all over his GQ shirt and tie, she ends up having the ultimate meet-cute. Sparks fly and things feel beyond promising until he says the words, "See you tomorrow, Amy." Uh, oh-she'll definitely have to straighten him out the following day.

Lots of swearing
Revisado: 06-07-23
The author must have a very limited vocabulary because the F word is used in just about every sentence. If you don't like swearing, don't listen to this one.

Whimsical
Revisado: 09-19-22
Whimsical with some serious childhood issues being the main theme. I have read Sarah Allison Allen before, And I do enjoy her books. She writes in a little bit of magic along with her story. This one was probably not my favorite if hers but I did enjoyed. I thought the narrator was very good

Historia
One of Jane Austen’s most beloved works, Pride and Prejudice, is vividly brought to life by Academy Award nominee Rosamund Pike ( Gone Girl). In her bright and energetic performance of this British classic, she expertly captures Austen’s signature wit and tone. Her attention to detail, her literary background, and her performance in the 2005 feature film version of the novel provide the perfect foundation from which to convey the story of Elizabeth Bennet, her four sisters, and the inimitable Mr. Darcy.

What's not to like with Pride and Prejudice
Revisado: 11-09-20
The movie with Collin Firth is my favorite movie--period. I love the novel, too. It was great to listen to it, as I probably won't read this novel again (as I practically know it by heart). I enjoyed the actress, too.

Paint your toes. Pick up the wrong coffee and bagel order. Drive from Brooklyn to Jersey in traffic so slow you want to tear your hair out. It’s amazing all the useless things I can accomplish while on hold for three hours with customer service. Three hours when I should be getting the Date-in-a-Box website ready to launch at the big business expo in a few days. Except my shiny new website is glitching, and my inner rage-monster is ready to scorch some earth...when he finally picks up. Not the robot voice I expected but a real live human named Kal.
