Excellent story of a very special person. Brings back pictures in my head of days spent in the Nam. I do believe this audible book would benefit from a professional narrator.

Like being there all over again

As an ex grunt in the USMC during roughly the same time as the author I can relate to many of the personal feelings he felt. While my AO was I corps the base camps,( Gio Lihn, Con Thien, Khe Sahn) received heavy arty everyday from north of the DMZ. We had little contact in the bush with Viet Cong but could count on mixing it up with crack NVA divisions on nearly every patrol. It got so bad that the 9th Marines, specifically 1/9 became known as the "walking dead" and the DMZ itself the "Dead Marine Zone". I'm now 78 and in no shape to relive those days, however I have never again worked with men of the caliber and bravery of those I served with in Vietnam. It is a travesty that our elected representatives continue to send our warriors to fight, die, or be maimed in conflicts with no set end game.
