Historia
In the not-too-distant future, a 21-member crew launches from Earth. Their mission: to establish a temporary colony on Mars. Little do they know that colony will become permanent–and the last stand of the human race. Because, without warning, every single person left on Earth simply...vanishes. Now, a thousand years later, the resources needed to sustain life are running out, and the very existence of the Mars colony is threatened. Humankind has only one option–to return to its home planet.

A Lot of Set up, No Solid Conclusion!
Revisado: 09-07-24
The acting and editing are fantastic in this audio drama. Unfortunately, it's all glitz and glamour with no payoff. The whole story is setting up ideas and conspiracies and various people, then the series ends in a flash with most of the set up not paying off or being explained. The explanations you do get aren't fulfilling. It's as if they thought they had a lot more time and money to finish the project, then ran out of both and promptly wrote 'the end' in the middle of the drama. The production can be great but if you don't nail the story then unfortunately it just isn't good. I'd pass on this. You'll just be disappointed.

It's a fine book if you like YA
Revisado: 06-26-24
The narrator is excellent. If you enjoy YA, you'll also enjoy the writing in this novel. I'm not the biggest YA fan though so I think I might just stop here unless there's a substantial sale. But like I said, if you like YA pile on! You'll enjoy it.

In the heart of the South Pacific lies Point Nemo, the most desolate and remote place on Earth. At its core is a dead zone, devoid of life, where government agencies crash their obsolete satellites and space stations, confident they won't harm a soul. When the International Space Station suffers a catastrophic failure and plummets through the atmosphere, it's here that Mission Specialist Julie Rohr, an astrobiologist studying living space dust called xylem, finds herself marooned. Julie's only hope for rescue lies in the hands of her estranged father, Dr. Finn Maddern, a renowned mycologist.

Historia
In 2059, two vastly different groups of people portrayed by the compelling trio of Brendan Fraser (Academy Award winner), Luke Kirby (Emmy Award winner), and Vanessa Sears (Dora Award winner) undergo cryonic suspension. While their bodies are frozen, their minds, still active and awake, are uploaded into a massive quantum computer. The first group are all astronauts, about to leave Earth on a one-way interstellar colonization mission. The second group consists of convicted murderers and volunteers who elect to serve their sentences in a virtual-reality prison.

Good SciFi! Entertaining, Well Acted, Good Morals!
Revisado: 02-28-24
I have been a fan of Sawyer's since reading Calculating God back in 2008. I hope he continues writing more science fiction about the inevitability of death, apocalypse, and human frailty. He shines at exploring these concepts in a science fiction setting. While the characters aren't extremely deep due to the length of the overall script, it's still good and I still felt moved for them. As for the "political" statements espouses herein, every true Trekky will tell you that current events and politics have always been injected into science fiction. Dare I say, that is one of the points of the genre itself. Science Fiction helps cast a mirror on humanity through allegory. It's okay to disagree about subject matter but politics has always been apart of science fiction.

After 10 years in a failed cryogenic bed - body asleep, mind awake - William Chanokh's torture comes to an end as the fog clears, the hatch opens, and his friend and fellow hacker, Tom, greets him...by stabbing a screwdriver into his heart. Amazing Book
Revisado: 12-01-17
This book dives heavily into the ideas behind a population dealing with an absurdist reality, and those people trying to find meaning within it. It's beautiful and heartbreaking. I highly recommend The Reapers are the Angels.

Historia
The epic and highly anticipated conclusion to the listener-favorite series that had countless Audible listeners (and employees) hooked from the very first Bob - featuring, as always, a flawless performance from the inimitable Ray Porter. Being a sentient spaceship really should be more fun. But after spreading out through space for almost a century, Bob and his clones just can't stay out of trouble. They've created enough colonies so humanity shouldn't go extinct.

Incredible Series
Revisado: 11-26-17
These three books are a high achievement in the science fiction genre. It has everything that you could possibly want. You've got philosophy, science, high concept ideas, raw, brutal emotions, and a sense of awe and inspiration. All of this from a series of books based around the concept of sentient Von Neumann probes. Truly amazing. I highly recommend this series to everyone that enjoys high concept science fiction. Oh, and Ray Porter is an amazing voice actor. You won't be disappointed.

Fun but uninspiring
Revisado: 11-17-17
The book is a pleasant book. The characters were nice, the world building was great, but the narrative lacked wonder. I reach toward sci-fi to experience wonder. This novel gave you a brief glimpse at it but no more than that.

Historia
In the 25th century, humankind has spread throughout the galaxy, monitored by the watchful eye of the U.N. While divisions in race, religion, and class still exist, advances in technology have redefined life itself. Now, assuming one can afford the expensive procedure, a person's consciousness can be stored in a cortical stack at the base of the brain and easily downloaded into a new body (or "sleeve") making death nothing more than a minor blip on a screen.

Beware Sound Interference
Revisado: 10-28-17
The story and the performance were amazing. 5 out of 5. However, there are some rather annoying issues with the recording. You can hear mic interference and other issues at times. It was a tad annoying but didn't bring the overall production down by much. I'd recommend this.

This was a wonderful book. GRRM is a very thorough and comprehensive writer. No wonder Winds of Winter has taken so long. Roy Dotrice did a wonderful job. I am just saddened that he couldn't live to finish his work on this series. The next narrator will have large shoes to fill. RIP, Roy Dotrice.
