Historia
This forest isn't charted on any map. Every car breaks down at its treeline. Mina's is no different. Left stranded, she is forced into the dark woodland only to find a woman shouting, urging Mina to run to a concrete bunker. As the door slams behind her, the building is besieged by screams. Mina finds herself in a room with a wall of glass, and an electric light that activates at nightfall, when the watchers come above ground. These creatures emerge to observe their captive humans and terrible things happen to anyone who doesn't reach the bunker in time.

A wee predictable, but great none the less
Revisado: 02-26-25
The story was a bit predictable, but a great haunting and eerie read. Also a great intro to the genre as it's not too graphic. I really enjoyed it.

Big fan of all basically all of Stroud's work. I'm admittedly bias, but he doedn't go wrong with this book either.

I don't understand the rave reviews
Revisado: 05-17-23
I couldn't finish the book. Ethan is lost and just stumbles around with traumatic injuries while people treat him oddly. That's the first three and half hours of the book. Super frustrated that audible wouldn't let me return this.

Non-gripping and Uncaptivating
Revisado: 10-11-22
I fought really really hard to make it to the end of this book. The only character I managed to care about at all is the MC and only barely. I felt like the story was weak and uncaptivating, but I thought maybe there would be a really awesome flair at the end that made all the impossibly obvious red herrings worth my patience. I was wrong. The ending was incredibly unsatisfying and I am very frustrated with how hard I fought through this book for so little pay off.

A Weak Female Protagonist in a Weak Horror Setting
Revisado: 04-14-22
I was looking for a strong horror sci fi book and this was not it. The MC comes off as weak, weepy, and indecisive as she waffles through relationships rather than danger through most of the book. The horror elements are limited to dead bodies and hallucinations of dead bodies. It was a slog through every minute of it.

Developing video games—hero's journey or fool's errand? The creative and technical logistics that go into building today's hottest games can be more harrowing and complex than the games themselves, often seeming like an endless maze or a bottomless abyss. In Blood, Sweat, and Pixels, Jason Schreier takes listeners on a fascinating odyssey behind the scenes of video game development, where the creator may be a team of 600 overworked underdogs or a solitary geek genius.

Revisado: 02-11-20
This is easily the best written and narrated of the Lockewood series so far. The others were enjoyable, but the stories slow in places and the narrator bland in others. In this one Jonathan Stroud and Emily Beavan both hit their strided for a remarkable experience.

Fantastic Alien Story
Revisado: 02-06-20
Cold Forge is a little less reliant on the Alien the other entries to the universe. But it works spectacularlywith great characters, an awesome villian, and throwbacks to the movies. Nothing feels tacky or overused as can happen in this genre. If you enjoy Alien at all this will be up your alley.

Beautifully Dreamy, Infuriatingly Nonsensical
Revisado: 01-15-20
Morgenstern's writing and world is beautiful and dreamy, but after 18 hours you expect the story to grow and progress into something grand and it doesn't. You are left with the same confused feeling of nonsensical wonder that entices you at the start of the book, but is terribly unsatisfying at the end. Characters feel intriguing and mysterious at their introduction, but don't go deeper. Like a beautifully painted door with nothing but a wall behind it. Also I'm sick of everything tasting like honey.
