Historia
Man’s Search for Meaning is the chilling yet inspirational story of Viktor Frankl’s struggle to hold on to hope during the unspeakable horrors of his years as a prisoner in Nazi concentration camps. Between 1942 and 1945 Frankl labored in four different camps, including Auschwitz, while his parents, brother, and pregnant wife perished. Based on his own experience and the experiences of those he treated in his practice, Frankl argues that we cannot avoid suffering, but we can choose how to cope with it, find meaning in it, and move forward with renewed purpose.

Historia
For the past few hundred years, most of what we’ve been taught about the native cultures of North America came from reports authored by the conquerors and colonizers who destroyed them. Now - with the technological advances of modern archaeology and a new perspective on world history - we are finally able to piece together their compelling true stories. In Ancient Civilizations of North America, Professor Edwin Barnhart, Director of the Maya Exploration Center, will open your eyes to a fascinating world you never knew existed - even though you’ve been living right next to it, or even on top of it.

Historia
In the aftermath of World War II, the United States stood at a precipice. The forces of modernity unleashed by the war had led to astonishing advances in daily life, but technology and mass culture also threatened to erode the country's traditional moral character. As award-winning historian George M. Marsden explains in The Twilight of the American Enlightenment, postwar Americans looked to the country's secular liberalelites for guidance in this precarious time, but these intellectuals proved unable to articulate a coherent common cause by which America could chart its course.

Historia
Wall Street is an unending source of legend - and nightmares. It is a universal symbol of both the highest aspirations of economic prosperity and the basest impulses of greed and deception. Charles R. Geisst's Wall Street is at once a chronicle of the street itself - from the days when the wall was merely a defensive barricade built by Peter Stuyvesant - and an engaging economic history of the United States, a tale of profits and losses, enterprising spirits, and key figures that transformed America into the most powerful economy in the world.

Would you consider the audio edition of Wall Street to be better than the print version?
This was one of the must educational and detailed accounts of anything I've experienced in a while. I really couldnt wait to find out what would happen in each chapter
What other book might you compare Wall Street to and why?
it's like an american history course
Which scene was your favorite?
the 1920s and 1930's
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
its far too long for that, don't overdo it.
Any additional comments?
strongly recommend, though it's actually quite technical. Learn the vocab to improve your read of it.

Historia
Symbols have been used by secret societies since time immemorial; their power is used to control minds as they seek to transcend established laws and governments. The Illuminati is perhaps the largest secret organization in the world, and while many have yet to come to terms with the reality that they are introducing a New World Order, those who have embraced the truth have made positive steps to inform others of what could mark the start of yet another dark age.

Well I don't know what I expected
Revisado: 03-30-16
What disappointed you about The Discrete Power of the Illuminati Symbolism?
This book will suit you if you want paranoid Christian opinions what Satan worship involves. For example, the Illuminati teach their children telekinesis; or, the Illuminati created cancer AND AIDS. I was disappointed by the feeble mindedness of this book's ultra-conservative author.
Has The Discrete Power of the Illuminati Symbolism turned you off from other books in this genre?
I thought this would be better than it was, I did come across something more fairly written by another. I think I'm done now though, just read the Wikipedia page for the Illuminati and it's more than any of these books have on it.
What three words best describe Jim D. Johston’s performance?
odd sounding but rather good performance
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
this book is anti Illuminati. -_- ...if you were wondering

Historia
Seventy years ago, Erwin Schrdinger posed a simple, yet profound, question: What is life?. How could the very existence of such extraordinary chemical systems be understood? This problem has puzzled biologists and physical scientists both before, and ever since. Living things are hugely complex and have unique properties, such as self-maintenance and apparently purposeful behaviour which we do not see in inert matter. So how does chemistry give rise to biology?

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Absolutely, if you're very interested in life origin that is. It was a slow boil with the last two chapters carrying the best content.
Which scene was your favorite?
I was constantly impressed to learn how much has been discovered about the replicating behavior of DNA.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The winding explanation of the difficult (to me) concept of dynamic stability which is responsible for the increasing complexity in living systems was gratifying and very substantive.
Any additional comments?
This book feels current and far ahead of any thing I had previously learned about the subject.

Historia
A pathbreaking neuroscientist reveals how our social instincts turn Me into Us, but turn Us against Them - and what we can do about it. The great dilemma of our shrinking world is simple: never before have those we disagree with been so present in our lives. The more globalization dissolves national borders, the more clearly we see that human beings are deeply divided on moral lines - about everything from tax codes to sexual practices to energy consumption - and that, when we really disagree, our emotions turn positively tribal.

Revisado: 06-26-15
Would you listen to Moral Tribes again? Why?
This is a long containing a great deal of moral psychology, a second listen is certainly warranted if you wish to be able to discuss the concepts with others.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Moral Tribes?
The explanation of why no moral truths may be derived from logic or religion were crystal clear and easily recalled.
What’s the most interesting tidbit you’ve picked up from this book?
I love the stories about the inhabitants of "the new pastures" a parable for comparing many of todays' moral views.
Any additional comments?
This was a very fascinating and relevant book containing: detailed science on how and why our morals are produced in our brains, well selected and interesting psychology experiments and data, and a very practical case for utilitarianism. A must read for any citizen of the world.

Historia
One hundred thousand years ago, at least six human species inhabited the Earth. Today there is just one. Us. Homo sapiens. How did our species succeed in the battle for dominance? Why did our foraging ancestors come together to create cities and kingdoms? How did we come to believe in gods, nations, and human rights; to trust money, books, and laws; and to be enslaved by bureaucracy, timetables, and consumerism?

Historia
One of the great fears many of us face is that despite all our effort and striving, we will discover at the end that we have wasted our life. In A Guide to the Good Life, William B. Irvine plumbs the wisdom of Stoic philosophy, one of the most popular and successful schools of thought in ancient Rome, and shows how its insight and advice are still remarkably applicable to modern lives. In A Guide to the Good Life, Irvine offers a refreshing presentation of Stoicism, showing how this ancient philosophy can still direct us toward a better life.

Relevant sampling of Stoicism for modern life
Revisado: 03-09-15
What did you love best about A Guide to the Good Life?
It is written purposefully and makes it clear how one might apply the information
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
I enjoyed being educated about philosophy generally and this short book gives mainly core elements of context and history.
What about James Patrick Cronin’s performance did you like?
it was fine
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The death of Socrates perhaps...
Any additional comments?
Stoicism came somewhat naturally for me, but I think I may have enjoyed the book more if it had not. The hallmark of Stoic life is to be optimistic and happy with your imperfect situation, which to me is a personality trait and not something you can easily will yourself to be. Therefore, if you can easily apply this advice, you probably already do, and if you desperately need this advice, it may be very difficult to live.
