Historia
Stella Nickell's small-time world was one of big-time dreams. In 1986, her biggest one came true when her husband died during a seizure, making her the beneficiary of a $175,000-plus insurance payoff - until authorities discovered that Bruce Nickell's headache capsules had been laced with cyanide. In an attempt to cover her tracks, Stella did the unconscionable. She saw to it that a stranger would also become a 'random casualty' of cyanide-tainted painkillers.

Historia
In 1911 two wealthy British heiresses, Claire and Dora Williamson, came to a sanitorium in the forests of the Pacific Northwest to undergo the revolutionary fasting treatment of Dr. Linda Burfield Hazzard. It was supposed to be a holiday for the two sisters. But within a month of arriving at what the locals called Starvation Heights, the women were emaciated shadows of their former selves, waiting for death.

Exceeded expectations!

Would you consider the audio edition of Starvation Heights to be better than the print version?
Didn't read the print version. I prefer audiobooks.
What did you like best about this story?
Author did a wonderful job researching the story. Facts were known. Complete backgrounds were complete. It was a book that you could feel you could look at and feel it unfolding in front on you. Like a looking glass. Kept my curiosity to the very end. It is a long book but if you like well researched material then it's for you!
Which character – as performed by Jennifer Van Dyck – was your favorite?
Dorathea and her nurse.
What’s the most interesting tidbit you’ve picked up from this book?
I had no clue that something like this could happen and so many that were fooled by this evil woman.
Any additional comments?
Not impressed with the narrator chosen for this book. I tend to associate certain voices with certain authors.

Historia
Dixie Shanahan had a terribly troubled and abusive marriage in the sleepy little town of Defiance, Iowa. Then one summer day in 2002, Dixie's mean and wicked husband was gone. Some of the local residents presumed that Scott packed his bags and left town. But others were skeptical. After all, Scott's brown Ford pick-up truck was still parked in his driveway. The disappearance mystified Defiance for more than a year. Then in late October, 2003, the truth emerged - or did it?

Do NOT waste your credit :(
Revisado: 05-17-15
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Someone that really took the time to do proper research, give backgrounds, tell the story of their life day to day. Someone that actually wrote a book about it.
What was most disappointing about John Ferak’s story?
He did not tell you anything that you didn't already know if you had seen this story on any crime show such as Snapped. He had a chance to really bring this story to life and completely dropped the ball. Nothing new from what you could read in the newspaper, an episode of Snapped or probably Wikipedia.
Would you be willing to try another one of Dave Wright’s performances?
Absolutely Not! There was no passion, no story telling method of his narration. He sped read through it. Did horrible voices when trying to speak the female (Dixie's) part. Bleeding from the ears!
What character would you cut from Dixie's Last Stand?
Being true crime there isn't really anyone you could cut from the story.
Any additional comments?
Was excited to see someone had written a book about Dixie and Scott. I felt bad for Dixie. This book did nothing for me. A real let down and disappointment. Her story could have been told so much better. Turning it back in for a credit. Let down from the author and the narrator.
