TSTL Syndrome Gone Amok
Revisado: 09-16-24
The MFC suffers from Too Stupid To Live syndrome. Her idiotic choices get her into predicament after predicament from which she extricates herself by sheer dumb luck. If she is the epitome of a British spy during WWI, it’s amazing we all aren’t speaking German. Add in a barely tolerable narration replete with words so mangled by mispronunciation and I found myself skipping ahead just to get through the thing. “Not for me” is an understatement.

I feel used.
Revisado: 11-25-23
I’m actually angry at this book. I’ve been disappointed with Nora Roberts books lately and was pleasantly surprised at how much I was enjoying this one. And then we got the cliffhanger. Are her books not selling like they used to? Does she have to resort to manipulative ploys like this in order to get people to buy the rest of the books in a trilogy now? I actually wish I could get my money back on this book. But I listened to the whole thing, not realizing that we did not have an ending to a story. I strongly suggest that if you have not purchased the book yet, and you are reading these reviews, think twice. Maybe wait until the entire trilogy is out and see if it’s worth the money.

Historia
Savannah Moore arrives in Eternity Springs alone, determined to put her troubled past behind her. Her handcrafted-soap shop fits right in with the magic of this warm and welcoming community - but the sexy, suspicious local sheriff promises to upset her hard-won happiness. Zach Turner knows this woman means trouble - maybe to his town. Possibly to his friends. Definitely to his heart. Something about this simmering Southern beauty does crazy things to his committed bachelor status.

Male protagonist is an ass
Revisado: 07-30-23
Others seem to like the character of the sheriff, but he is a bit of an ass. He talks about sleeping with the female protagonist to “get her out of his system“ as if she didn’t have any say in the matter. She makes her feelings about a relationship clear, but then, when she doesn’t change her mind, just because he wants her to, he becomes antagonistic. Then when her nephew is falsely accused of a crime, knowing that she had been falsely convicted of one, he tells her to enjoy her victimhood. I don’t understand how women can write make characters that treat female characters so poorly. This is by far my least favorite book in the series. The others aren’t great literature, but they are at least diverting. This one is insulting.

Historia
The first kiss occurred in a dimly lit hallway on the upper floor of Elwin Hastings's grand house. Louisa Bryce never saw it coming. Of course, handsome, wealthy Anthony Stalbridge couldn't possibly have had romantic intentions. The kiss was merely meant to distract the armed guard about to catch the two unlikely sleuths. After all, the only thing these two interlopers have in common is a passionate interest in uncovering the dastardly secrets of Mr. Hastings—a prominent member of society whom they suspect of murder.

A re-release of an old book.
Revisado: 03-02-23
This is a re-release of a book published in 2007. This book has not aged well. The male protagonist is the stereotypical alpha male without the nuance one comes to expect from newer Amanda Quick novels. He manhandles the female protagonist, kissing her without permission, dragging her out of her chair and carrying her off to bed, again without permission. It’s very offputting, particularly since the female protagonist is spineless. Personally, I don’t care for the narrator’s style as it tends to be very, slow and draggy. If I play it at 1.3 times normal speed, it becomes tolerable. Otherwise, it’s almost sleep inducing.

One character almost ruins the book
Revisado: 11-02-22
I really dislike the Troy character in the book. The rampant homophobia and misogyny truly take one out of the story. If it was balanced with some redeeming qualities then it wouldn’t be so bad, but his character is so one-sided as to be a caricature instead.

I may be burned out on Harmony
Revisado: 09-21-22
I wish I had checked to see who was narrating this before I pre-ordered it. If I had I would have avoided listening to Rosenblatt screech her way through another narration. I also think Krentz may have dipped into the Harmony well too many times, because the stories are starting to sound all too familiar. Maybe I’m just misremembering, but it seems this isn’t the first time she’s used the date the matchmaker to fulfill a contract trope. There is also something offputting, almost whiny, about the female protagonist. Not her best character development.

In Still Just a Geek, Wil revisits his 2004 collection of blog posts, Just a Geek, filled with insightful and often laugh-out-loud annotated comments, additional later writings, and all new material written for this publication. The result is an incredibly raw and honest memoir, in which Wil opens up about his life, about falling in love, about coming to grips with his past work, choices, and family, and finding fulfillment in the new phases of his career.

More than just a geek!
Revisado: 04-17-22
There are too many things I enjoyed about this book to list. Wheaton‘s open and honest discussion of his life and challenges made for a heartfelt experience listening to this book. His discussions about living with mental illness makes me wish I still taught psychology, because I would have liked to have used them to give meaning to what I tried to teach my students about mental health. I look forward to listening to more of his stories in the future, and as hard as it was, I’m glad he made the decision so many years ago to leave a popular TV show because it led him to finding his real passion which we all can enjoy.

Complete and utter dreck.
Revisado: 04-05-22
Complete and utter dreck. I can forgive the tired overdone plotline, I got used to the narrator’s bizarre intonation. But in the #MeToo era, to have an intelligent, capable woman fall into bed with her boss at the drop of a hat is just the male version of a Mary Sue story. She had already been fired, she signed up for what she considered would be a career ending job, so to add sleeping with the boss is the third strike and a ridiculous and unnecessary plot point. It makes what happens at the end all the more cringey. This is Thelma’s time I pre-order any Lincoln/Child book, and I’ve read them all.

Entertaining if a bit far fetched …
Revisado: 12-22-21
Overall I really enjoyed this book. It was well-written and well paced. Some bits were a little to “out there” for me, for example, how did that one astronaut get psych evals and background checks, but otherwise it’s a thumbs up recommendation from me. I hope he writes more, particularly with the main investigative character.

Good mystery; bad romance
Revisado: 12-18-21
The mystery elements is this series of books is quite well done and many of the characters are interesting. However, the romance elements are sophomoric and detract from the overall story, and the romance sophomoric. The female character involved in the romance is one of the least interesting characters in the series. I think the author may have realized the corner she had written her self into with the romance in the book, because in this book a character that was secondary in the first two books is now the primary protagonist, while the romance characters take a back seat. In this last book, trying to shoehorn in bits of Pride and Prejudice was just awkward; other stories have done it much better. Overall, the first two books were worth a listening, but this last one nearly ruins the series.
