Historia
Trauma nurse Aly Cappellucci doesn’t need any more kinks. She likes the one she’s landed on just fine. To her, nothing could top the masked men she follows online. Unless one of those men was shirtless, heavily tattooed, and waiting for her in her bedroom. She dreams about being hunted by one in particular, of him chasing her down and doing deliciously dark things to her willing body. She never could have guessed that by sending one drunken text, those dreams would become her new reality.

Starts strong then loses momentum
Revisado: 03-06-25
This book started strong with humor, interesting characters, and story actions. About 75% of the way through, the story had largely played out, but the book didn’t end. It started to feel like a house guest that didn’t know it was time to leave.
Overall, if you like some mask kink, bratting, dom/sub, and stalkerish elements delivered with humor then it is a good read. It is a golden retriever MMC with a black cat FMC. The narration is pretty solid.

Straight forward formula
Revisado: 03-06-25
If you like procedurals with detectives, you’ll like this book. It has the stubborn detective, clever killer, and traumatic backstory. It is a simple/shallow story that doesn’t go too deep into detail about how actions play out.
The narration could be better, but if you put it at 1.25 or 1.5 then the female narrator sounds normal- otherwise she sounds weirdly sultry all the time. The male narrator sounds like an AI reading the text which was jarring, but it’s easy to get used to after a while.

Okay, not scary, absurd gross factor
Revisado: 03-06-25
The warning on this book is overkill. It does have a gross factor, but the grossness is absurd enough to make it not especially stomach churning. There are definitely some gross moments in the book, but most of it is more likely to make you tilt your head because that isn’t how the human body works. The narrators do a good job and overall the story is okay.

It is what it says- Dark Rom Com
Revisado: 11-22-24
This book successfully delivers a funny dark romance - capable main characters, dark themes, kinks, murder, tension, and also humor. If you like your dark romance to only be serious then this might not be for you - there is plenty of serious but it is well punctuated with humor that fits.
The narrators are pretty amazing - they deliver a memorable performance. Pacing is quick.

I earned my reputation among magicians for a reason: one wrong move and you're dead. Killer, they called me, and killing is what I'm best at. Except her. The one I was supposed to take, the one I should have killed–I didn't. The cult that once controlled me wants her, and I'm not about to lose my new toy to them.

Fun, shallow dark romance
Revisado: 10-31-24
It’s a fun book, a popcorn book. There is a good story hidden there that isn’t delivered as well as it could be with better writing. The horror elements are undeveloped, mostly just mentioned but you never feel terror/fear/suspense.The spice is bdsm with emphasis on the sado-masochistic interactions. The characters are likable, the pacing is quick, and the narration is good. I recommend it to anyone wanting a simply written dark romance with multiple spicy scenes.

Historia
Perpetual daydreamer Liz Buxbaum gave her heart to Michael a long time ago. But her cool, aloof forever crush never really saw her before he moved away. Now that he’s back in town, Liz will do whatever it takes to get on his radar - and maybe snag him as a prom date - even befriend Wes Bennet. The annoyingly attractive next-door neighbor might seem like a prime candidate for romantic-comedy fantasies, but Wes has only been a pain in Liz’s butt since they were kids. Yet, somehow, Wes and Michael are hitting it off, which means Wes is Liz’s in.

Cute self aware YA romance
Revisado: 10-21-24
This is not a book type that I would choose to read, but I am still giving it 5 stars because it does well what it sets out to do - be a cute young adult romance that is self aware of its tropes. The MFC makes the kinds of mistakes you would expect a teenager to make, the situations match what happens in high school, and it all comes to an HEA.
Pacing is good- finished the book in two sittings.

love the book and movie
Revisado: 10-14-24
I loved how the sense of dread built up through the book. Watching Jack slowly descend into madness was well done - I simultaneously felt bad for him while my concern for his family grew. Each of the characters, especially Jack, are so much more nuanced in the book than the movie.

Interesting story stuck in excessive 80s trivia
Revisado: 10-14-24
There is an interesting story here, but you have to endure hours of trivia about tv shows, music bands, video games, and more from the 1980s. If you get the references, it is fun for a while and then you may find that you wish we could get back to the story. If you don’t get the references, I’m not sure this is an interesting book for you.
The writing is very simplistic, and sometimes relies too much on telling us a story rather than showing us with imagination.
Overall, it is okay.

Historia
Tess Strebel can’t recognize her own face. She can’t recognize her home. Her bedroom is unfamiliar. And she can’t remember the handsome stranger lying next to her in bed. A stranger who claims he’s her husband. Tess reads a letter in her own handwriting, composed during a rare lucid day, explaining her life as it now exists: she was in a terrible car accident one year ago. Every morning, she wakes up unable to remember most of the last decade. Including her own wedding.

Interesting story, okay writing, some plot holes
Revisado: 09-01-24
This book falls right in the not bad but also not great category. There are some plot holes - the character says they did something which should have a domino effect of actions but those actions somehow never happen or get mentioned.
There is a high level of repetition in the writing- I often found myself saying, “I KNOW BECAUSE YOU TOLD ME ALREADY!” while listening. As certain events occur repeatedly in the story, the descriptions from day to day are too similar.
The story is interesting and the performance is good. The pacing could be described as quick, but the repetition can make the story feel like it drags sometimes.
