Everyone should read!

Rangers lead the way? This is proof. Thank you for your service and bravery Rangers. The Army produces America’s best and special operations are no joke. Service before self is what resonates when I read about the rescue in this book.

Historia
Two men, each handsome and unusually adept at his chosen work, embodied an element of the great dynamic that characterized America’s rush toward the twentieth century. The architect was Daniel Hudson Burnham, the fair’s brilliant director of works and the builder of many of the country’s most important structures, including the Flatiron Building in New York and Union Station in Washington, D.C. The murderer was Henry H. Holmes, a young doctor who, in a malign parody of the White City, built his “World’s Fair Hotel” just west of the fairgrounds.

Boring
Revisado: 10-08-23
The positive: I liked the narrator. Negative: So many loved this book and although some stories were interesting, I was really bored through much of it. I LOVE history but I read this for the crime story. However, I felt like less then half of the book was about that. The other half was a historical account of the Chicago Worlds Fair, which normally would be my jam, but listening to a detailed account of what materials engineers used to build the first Ferris wheel or a building was excruciating.

Historia
Dave Pelzer was brutally abused as a child by his emotionally unstable, alcoholic mother. She considered him a slave - no longer a boy, but an "it". He was physically and mentally tortured and starved. The outside world knew nothing of the nightmare he experienced behind closed doors, and his father was aware of the abuse but turned to denial and alcohol. The abuse only fueled a determination to survive and become stronger.

Fantastic read about an incredible little boy that beat the odds.
Revisado: 07-03-23
What a story. The evil in this world and the human spirit are equally shocking and unrelenting. What an amazing little boy to survive such atrocities. My only complaint is I wish the book was longer and addressed what eventually happens to the family. I hope the mother is in jail. But more importantly I hope David was able to forgive and reconnect with God.

Historia
A master storyteller at his best - the O. Henry Prize winner Stephen King delivers a generous collection of stories, several of them brand-new, featuring revelatory autobiographical comments on when, why, and how he came to write (or rewrite) each story. Magnificent, eerie, utterly compelling, these stories comprise one of King's finest gifts to his constant fan. "I made them especially for you," says King. "Feel free to examine them, but please be careful. The best of them have teeth."

Boring and politically charged
Revisado: 05-18-23
We get it. You hate Trump. You hate republicans. But Mr King you don’t live in the real world so lock it up! I want a scary story. I don’t want to be brainwashed like most of America. And these stories were weird and boring.

Historia
After more than a decade, when sisters Nikki, Sami, and Tori Knotek hear the word mom, it claws like an eagle’s talons, triggering memories that have been their secret since childhood. Until now. For years, behind the closed doors of their farmhouse in Raymond, Washington, their sadistic mother, Shelly, subjected her girls to unimaginable abuse, degradation, torture, and psychic terrors. Through it all, Nikki, Sami, and Tori developed a defiant bond that made them far less vulnerable than Shelly imagined.

Unnerving and shocking
Revisado: 01-11-20
I’ve read a lot of books that are difficult to get through but this beats them all. Finished in 2 days. Cried a lot. Absolutely mind boggling what evils a person can do. Although I will never forget this story and it will forever sit with me, I’m so glad I paid tribute to the Knotek sisters and the atrocities they were subjected to. I’m in awe of their perseverance, bravery and strength. May God be with them and somehow eliminate their pain and guilt.
