Not the real Holmes

The Holmes we get in this story must have hit his head falling down the stairs. Multiple times. Because this guy is just stupid and nothing close to the legendary detective from Doyle's writing. The real Holmes wouldn't have allowed himself to be captured once, much less twice, and miss a bunch of clues. I could not finish the book.

disappointing and unworthy

If the protagonist were not named Jack Reacher, I would not have finished the book. The plot is very disappointing and very off-brand from the old Reacher stories. The narration was also very poor. The same voice that did the Gray Man series just doesn't work for Reacher. In summary, this book really ruined my impression of this series. I will be rereading and listening to the earlier books to cleanse my mental palate. And please, let the next book be much better.

Hilarious from beginning to end

This book was an absolute blast! I listened to the studiobook version and the performance was splendid, bravo to the cast! There were countless moments when I laughed out loud in places where I shouldn't do that. I will definitely look into more works by this author!

a poor man's Nowhere Man

Without spoiling the plot, this book comes off as a huge rip off of Orphan X aka Nowhere Man. One might say Azrael is the dumber younger brother of Evan Smoak and does everything worse than him. The fact that I dislike the character enough to write a review should be telling enough. And the author brought on the comparison by making the protagonist very, very similar to Orphan X in just about every way, to a point where I wondered if he could be sued for outright piracy. I will not be reading another book in the series.

Another great Gray Man story

Grear story, but wanted to note that one character's accent changed in between chapters! How did the editor not catch this 🤣 Otherwise another excellent and worthy entry to the series.

great story, horrible presentation of Hong Kong

The story is excellent as usual and a fitting conclusion to the trilogy.

My biggest complaint is that the author seems to have never been to Southeast Asia and totally describes Hong Kong wrong. Anyone who has ever spent time there knows that it is not hotter than Australia, so to have some Aussies complain about the heat is completely off the mark.

The narrator also butchers the pronunciation of many Chinese terms, which means he did not do any homework in this area. "C" is pronounced "ts", not "k". All in all, both author and narrator badly dropped the ball in the Hong Kong portion.

Fortunately if you've never been to Hong Kong or speak Chinese, then you won't be the wiser and the story is so superb. But if you know the place and the language, you've been warned.

amazing story beware of disinterested narration

The story was awesome and good enough to overcome the barely adequate narration. There were moments of shouting and screaming, but the narrator couldn't inflect the necessary emotion because his tone was too flat to the point of disinterest.

The story was absolutely spectacular, which made the pathetic narration wholly inadequate. The reading was one step away from being comatose and I hope the next book is read by someone else.

A masterpiece

I would give this title 10 stars if I could. Everything from the plot to the performance was exceptional. Even halfway through listening, I knew I was going to write a review to recommend it to everyone else. I only wish there were a sequel.

spectacular drama and riveting performance

I usually listen to the Gray Man series and Jack Reacher so this book was a gamble for me, but it paid off really well. The plot was believable and the characters were highly distinguishable. The villain was absolutely deplorable and I couldn't stand that person, which made me realize how convincing the voice acting was. Overall I thought it took a little too long to develop but the end was worth it.
