Historia
This exciting book by three pioneers in the field of cognitive science discusses important discoveries about how much babies and young children know and learn, and how much parents naturally teach them. It argues that evolution designed us both to teach and learn, and that the drive to learn is our most important instinct. It also reveals fascinating insights about our adult capacities and how even young children - as well as adults - use some of the same methods that allow scientists to learn so much about the world.

Historia
In How to End the Autism Epidemic, Generation Rescue’s cofounder J.B. Handley offers a compelling, science-based explanation of what’s causing the autism epidemic, the lies that enable its perpetuation, and the steps we must take as parents and as a society in order to end it.

pronunciations
Revisado: 04-18-19
only gripe (and this is minor) is that Handley narrates his own book and he happens to pronounce a lot of words wrong. any non-scientist who is familiar with words on the page after steeping themselves heavily in the research literature (not from hearing them spoken in the field) can make this mistake. a hired narrator probably would have had to look up the words and ensure they knew proper pronunciation before recording. it's a little distracting, but i always knew the words he was saying, and i understand he is a parent of a child with autism and a consumer advocate, so it's fine that he doesn't know the pronunciation. i just feel bummed because when i want to share certain audio clips and they contain mispronunciations, i know i'll get that *look* from the person i share with, where, without having heard, like i did, the entire body of work, as well as other books, and Handley's podcast interviews as well, they may not realize (or be willing to believe) this guy can be taken seriously. as a new mother at age 37, with autoimmunity and arthritis since age 28 (coincidence that it followed on the heels of me getting the HPV vaccine at a told when i also took frequent antibiotics for recurring tonsillitis? who can say), i am terrified about subjecting my perfect, beautiful, healthy baby to any toxins, and we've been cautious on all fronts (eating organic, getting plastic out of our kitchen/food supply, getting rid of toxic furniture, etc) but if i lose the argument against vaccines to my spouse, since it's our joint decision, i may end up in a nightmare that many other parents already know so well. so it really bums me out to worry that one of the best & most up-to-date sources of information on the topic (that new parents can actually consume, b/c audio on commutes is an option, unlike reading books, the baby really does take ALL our time!) that this source (this audio book) is slightly undermined by the pronunciation issues. i do really hope the author goes back at some point and re-records and corrects mispronunciations. this message is way too important to be poorly received by highly educated people who have thus far been made skeptical to the point of unwittingly starting from a prejudicial point of view, ready to find fault with the "anti-vaxxer" argument they're sure to consider this before they've yet opened their minds fully. if that makes sense.
