Historia
Artemisia is training to be a Gray Sister, a nun who cleanses the bodies of the deceased so that their souls can pass on; otherwise, they will rise as ravenous, hungry spirits. She would rather deal with the dead than the living, who whisper about her scarred hands and troubled past. When her convent is attacked by possessed soldiers, Artemisia defends it by awakening an ancient spirit bound to a saint’s relic. It is a revenant, a malevolent being whose extraordinary power almost consumes her - but death has come, and only a vespertine has any chance of stopping it.

I absolutely adore the world of Loraille

This is an amazing story. I'm a 40 year old woman who has read all of Margaret Rogerson's books and this one is by far my favorite. Yes, it's a YA novel, but it's a good one. The revenant is a fantastic character as is Artemisia, and everything about this world is so intriguing. I was crushed to learn that this was originally going to be a trilogy, but now is just a stand alone book. I hope Margaret Rogerson changes her mind and finishes the saga. Caitlin Davies is also one of my favorite audible narrators and does a great job.
