Great mystery
Revisado: 08-29-20
I was worried that this series would sort of Peter out, becoming less interesting as it went, but I was happily wrong. This was a great mystery and still managed character development even 15 books in. Really enjoyed and do recommend. You could definitely start here, too, though you wouldn’t have all the context.

Amazing Series Just Continues to Get Better
Revisado: 12-22-15
When I first started reading this series I thought there was no way the reviews could be right about their quality. I was wrong. This series somehow just gets better as it goes on. The plot is awesome, character development amazing and the narration of this series can't be beat. Love it. On to the next one!

Historia
One of Jane Austen’s most beloved works, Pride and Prejudice, is vividly brought to life by Academy Award nominee Rosamund Pike ( Gone Girl). In her bright and energetic performance of this British classic, she expertly captures Austen’s signature wit and tone. Her attention to detail, her literary background, and her performance in the 2005 feature film version of the novel provide the perfect foundation from which to convey the story of Elizabeth Bennet, her four sisters, and the inimitable Mr. Darcy.

a favorite with excellent narration
Revisado: 12-14-15
I love Pride and Prejudice. I read it at least once a year. When I heard that Rosamund Pike was doing a reading of it I knew that I had to indulge in buying yet another copy. It was completely worth it. If you've never read Pride and Prejudice I recommend starting with this version and narration. It is glorious. if you've read it before and loved it, I'd recommend it as well. Rosamund does the prose justice with her lovely voice and diction.

Historia
When an unknown someone shoots him and leaves him to die, Harry Dresden hopes he might be heading to a better place. Unfortunately being dead doesn't make Harry's life any easier. Trapped between life and death, he learns that his friends are in serious trouble. Only by finding his murderer can he save his friends and move on - a feat that would be a lot easier if he had a body and access to his powers. Worse still are the malevolent shadows that roam Chicago, controlled by a dark entity that wants Harry to suffer even in death.

such improvement in this performance!
Revisado: 05-08-15
I have listened to all of the Dresden books and was incredibly dissatisfied with the narrator chosen for this book originally (not James Marsters despite the fact he's done all the others). I recognize now that this dissatisfaction colored my perception of this book. Really enjoyed the book and re-listen.

Revisado: 04-06-15
really enjoyed this start to a new cozy. This narrator always sounds like she has serious sinus problems but that didn't get in the way of my listening. plot was interesting and a bit different. really liked that Katie didn't get everything she wanted. wasn't your typical happily ever after.

great epic fantasy
Revisado: 02-10-15
I originally read these books in the mid 90s when I was in high school and am now rereading using the audio book. first of all the narration is great. Modesitt uses onomatopoeias a lot and it really works in text and in the audiobook. I feel that on the other side of 15 years this book holds up well as the start of a great epic fantasy series. I'll be continuing my reread using audiobooks.

Historia
The town of Stoneham is a haven for bookstores, but it is sadly lacking in bed-and-breakfasts. Fortunately Pippa and Jon Comfort's Sheer Comfort Inn is about to open, and the couple has offered some locals a free night as a trial run. But it won't be so easy to sleep after Tricia makes two startling discoveries: Pippa's murdered body in the backyard, and the fact that Pippa's husband, Jon, is actually Harry Tyler, a man Tricia loved - and believed dead - for nearly 20 years. Though Harry is the prime suspect, Tricia doesn't believe him capable of murder, even though he's led a life of lies.

Okay story ruined by bad narration
Revisado: 12-20-14
Would you try another book from Lorna Barrett and/or Karen White?
I would definitely buy another book from Lorna Barrett, but I have no interest in listening to Karen White ever again. Karen routinely called one of the main characters, and in some instances even the main character, by the wrong name - I don't know if this was a problem with the text or with her narration. But it was confusing. It made it difficult to follow the plot lines or understand what was actually happening. Also her Texas accent for one of the characters was grating.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Karen White?
I liked the previous narrator, Cassandra Campbell.
Any additional comments?
I really enjoy this series, but I feel like the story has started to flounder. Tricia has been questioning how she feels about her life but she is just lamenting about it, she's not doing anything to rectify it.
