Needless death brings book down a notch.

I enjoyed the series but this last book the author just kept killing off characters. Many were unnecessary and only advanced the plot a little. Then finally after the big climax of the book and the invasion is stop they go and kill another principal character for no damn reason whatever. The death did nothing to advance anything about the book. Nothing.

Primal Hunter from wish.

I swear this Primal Hunter if found on wish. Awkward loner who uses skills from pre-system to get ahead. One is an archer the other is wrestler/boxer. They both get super powerful from sheer willpower and because they are “different.”
Even the narrator feels like the wish version of Primal Hunter’s narrator.

The one good thing was that it was really long so I got my credit’s worth. Of course sometimes I was so board I had to switch to listening to something else. The bones of a great story are there but no real world building and the character development is so slow burn that you are in danger of falling asleep,

Way too drawn out.

Not nearly as good as the first 2. Feels like there is a lot of words just to get a word count. The entire plot could have been written as by cutting a 3rd of the length of the book and not loose anything.

Great potential but way too Larry Stu.

So I really wanted to love this book. I like Steve and the chemistry he has with Ingrid. However he really never has a hard time in combat. Especially with the huge level boost towards the end.
Which means the conflict is ho-hun
Also the dude is British they could have not gotten a British narrator?

Very enjoyable light reading

Lots of fun. Only real down size is that the character is such a Gary Stu. He is literally 1/3 on the way to Godhood.
Also I am writing this after finishing the 2nd book.
There needs to be more Boris the Labrador in the overall story.

The system sucks

I would like to give the story more stars. I like the characters, the world building is okay if mediocre, but the RPG aspects is so poorly designed it is aggravating.
Hal is an awesome character. When the first thing he runs into 2 beautiful fantasy woman I was a little worried about Haram elements but the fact that he is no cussing relieved that worry.

Dresden files but ordered from Wish.

Did he rip off my favorite author Jim Butcher, Yes!
Did I still enjoy the story? Well also yes.
If Audible bundles further books in the series will spend a credit on them? Probably yes.
So pros. Fun characters and it really captures the whole wizard detective thing well which lets face it Harry Dresden has outgrown the whole PI shtick as he has gain power. This doesn’t quite measure up but it almost fills the whole.
Interesting things. The Murphy character being a single mother, Bob+mister=Tabitha the talking cat (but not as useful as Bob)
Annoying thing- Another stupid wizard can’t use technology trope. Super annoying and also you can’t be in academia these days and be a Luddite so it’s hurts the whole suspension of disbelief. Not to mention the whole, “I gotta find a pay phone thing” every other chapter just grated on my nerves. While there is so many obvious homages to DF the stories are pretty original and the Magic system is completely different.
