Just meh for me.
Revisado: 05-23-23
This just felt like a general self help book to me. There were a few good nuggets and suggestions but overall felt like the solution was presented as just “sleep more, exercise more, eat better.” And while these are important things to do for health, I just don’t feel like it fully addressed the true extent of what burnout is or how to get past it.

What a treat this book was!! It hit home in so many ways and convicted me in others! I laughed along, cried along and loved the many ideas, the passion, and possibilities shared in this book. It is such a simple and revolutionary idea to change our communities. 5/5 stars!
Also if you liked this book you would also enjoy a book called “The Turquoise Table” by Kristen Schell.
Long live hospitality!!!

Historia
In this hustling, image-forward age of opportunity, we feel more anxious than ever. Despite all the affirming memes and self-reflections that dominate social media feeds, approval and worth often seem assigned to what we do rather than who we are. And we end up constantly feeling like we’re behind, lacking, and failing - at home, at work, with friends, with God.

This was a GREAT listen. It was so down to earth and practical and not full of “Christianese” phrases that are empty and confusing. This was easy to understand and SO applicable to our culture very day lives. Yes, highly recommended!!

In the tradition of Frank McCourt’s Angela’s Ashes and Alice Taylor’s To School Through the Fields, Tom Phelan’s We Were Rich and We Didn't Know It is a heartfelt and masterfully written memoir of growing up in Ireland in the 1940s. We Were Rich and We Didn't Know It recounts Tom’s upbringing in an isolated, rural community from the day he was delivered by the local midwife. With tears and laughter, it speaks to the strength of the human spirit in the face of life's adversities.

Loved this book. Thoroughly enjoyed the Irish vocabulary. Definitely reminds you of how easy we have it these days and the harder issues that people had to face back then on rural farms. Characters were well developed- moments of hilarity and sadness, truly enjoyed listening to this bit of history!

Couldn’t finish this book- distracted by the amount of curse words used. It’s obnoxious- and seems like she is trying to be trendy but it really is so often that is detracts from the other content. I’m not a prude and don’t mind the occasional curse word to express a point but this was just unnecessary and over the top.
