I couldn’t stop listening. The book itself is a jewel but the narrator does an outstanding job. I recommend this book to any fan of Dan Brown. He has nothing on Javier Sierra or Matilde Asensi

Saint Linda of the breathy Narration

Revisado: 08-12-19

Could you not read between the lines and google early pictures of Linda, you’d think she was a saint or, at the very least, a very pure southern belle in victorian clothing. However, facts remain, and pictures or extremely scantly clad Linda during her “ pageant/groupie” years, paint a truer picture. No matter how she spins it, this book is about how Linda was with Elvis until she could no longer benefit from it, and then started seeing all of her future husbands while they were still married and in both cases, leaving pregnant wives to be with her. It’s very clear she was an Elvis groupie who he just allowed to be by him as he was heading towards death. She depicts Elvis as a mess, Bruce as a poor father and David as vile and controlling, while she portrays herself as the very depiction of a saint for dealing with them, a puritan who “ wouldn’t be with married me” ( but only was with them). The narration of the book is quite annoying at some points, because she uses an extremely low, very breathy voice with a very pronounced southern accent to narrate. It’s only when Linda reads lines that supposedly other people said, that she uses her normal adult voice, and a more neutral accent, the contrast is stark and annoying

The book is mostly light and fun. Celeste is funny and she tells a few stories about her upbringing that are hilarious. Her dad being a lovable character throughout.

It’s an enjoyable book if you are a fan, but there won’t be much content you don’t know about if you have followed Celeste’s career.

Some parts were unexpected as they lightly go into Celeste’s “ me too” and “ mean girls” incidents in her life, which of course were hard to listen to, because they are sad. They were also kind of predictable ( again, sadly. She’s a woman in show business).

Overall a good light read. Please read more reviews as this is only my opinion.

I Love James, so I am dissapointed

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Oddly enough, the narrator. I love boigraphies read by the author and I find James timing impecable and hillarious, usually. Is not the case with this book. He reads in a monotone, matter-of-fact way the detracts from what should be funny anecdotes.

What other book might you compare May I Have Your Attention Please? to and why?

Wildflower, by Drew Barrymore. Because is meant to be a fun, entertaining biography of a very likable spontaneus person, read by someone who, you'd think, would know how to narrate their own story and it dissapoints on both counts :narrator and story.

Have you listened to any of James Corden’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

James shoud learn things by heart before he "says them out loud". You can feel he is "reading" the book because is missing his usual spontaneity and timing .

Was May I Have Your Attention Please? worth the listening time?

Sadly no, and I love James.

Any additional comments?

I know James sees himslef as a "musical actor" ( even more so now he has told me about 100 times on this book) but the truth is people see him as comedian and host. His biography being about how "serious" he always was , about performing and being musicly inclined, from early childhood, with very little funny parts, is not exactly what I was expecting.

What made the experience of listening to The Book of Joan the most enjoyable?

Melissas's voice and how she spoke about her relationship with her mother from an honest place.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Book of Joan?

The time when Melissa jokes about signing this book deal at her mother's funeral.

Have you listened to any of Melissa Rivers’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No never, she is pretty good. I enjoy her tone and timing

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes

Any additional comments?

I recommend it

Would you try another book from Ian Halperin and/or Holter Graham?

Maybe. Not about people who are overexposed in the media. There is no new facts here.

Has Kardashian Dynasty turned you off from other books in this genre?

Almost. I do wonder why I paid to read material we all already know too much of for free.

What aspect of Holter Graham’s performance would you have changed?

The cocky tone of voice

Did Kardashian Dynasty inspire you to do anything?

Burn my ipad and go to church.

Any additional comments?

Don't bother. If loving to hate the Kardashians is your secret vice, you'll have to hear the same stories we all know and to make it worse, the author LOVES Kris Kardashian and paints her as an innocent Saint and loving mother...So we know who is REALLY behind this book.

Would you try another book from Ronald Miscavige and Dan Koon and/or Harvey Betancourt?

No. The author is unrepentant and his stories cringeworthy. The narrator makes "mocking voices" that are simply unbearable.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

The story is very vindictive for a father who is the main reason why his son has become the monster he describes him as (and I am sure is). I am not a Dave Miscavage fan. I believe Scientology is a cult, and I DEMAND Shelley Miscavage to be, at least, looked for. I have read Leah Remini's book, other books for Miscavage family members, seen documentaries.
However, reading this book you only learn that Dave Miscavage's father, although he left Scientology, is very much the same kind of person we know his son to be (narcissistic, doesn't hold himself accountable, uses "church dogma" for private vendettas, name-drops regularly, obsessed with celebrity ...).
Ron should have stayed in Scientology; he has no remorse. He does not realise his "beast" of a son did not fall very far from the tree, not far at all. I found it disturbing. This is the first time I have read about an ex-Scientologist who actually speaks and behaves like he should still be involved in the "church." I am convinced Ron would MOST DEFENITLY still be in Scientology, had his son given him special treatment or allow him to be the one dishing out the punishments. I have no doubt this man is responsible for at least 80 percent of the hell Scientology has become for so many people. This book is not the truth not does it come from a place of remorse. Is a vendetta from the guy who thinks he should have succeeded L Ron. Hi wants revenge on his own monster, the beast he created, his own son.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

He could have tried to stop himself from doing impersonations. His tone of voice was inappropriate at times. You do not read a chapter about "beating up your wife" like you are reading the morning news.

What else would you have wanted to know about Ronald Miscavige and Dan Koon ’s life?

The real TRUTH. How Ron shaped his son , David Miscavage, with his military discipline and obsession with "getting more" to become the monster he is.

Any additional comments?

I despise Scientology. I admire everyone who left. But this book is not written with an honest, open heart from a repentant point of view. This is an opportunistic, ridiculous biography of a self-deluded man (no unlike his son, David Miscavage) in which he uses having left the church as an excuse to insult, his now dead ex-wife and portray himself as some kind of a victim. This man admits to beating up his wife, using military discipline on his kids, etc...yet he does not appear to understand that is the very reason why his son is the person he is. Ron Miscavage might have left Scientology but is his son's father. Delusions of grandeur and many gratuitous insults to people who cannot defend themselves. All of this interlaced with pointless stories about his life as a low-level musician and a lot of name dropping.

Would you listen to The Rainbow Comes and Goes again? Why?

Maybe in the future. It's full of fascinating facts about Gloria and it takes you back to a world of glamour that doesn't exist anymore.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Gloria and Anderson are both fantastic characters, but I found the perception Gloria had of herself and that us, the public, have of her are very different. It was very interesting.

What does Anderson Cooper and Gloria Vanderbilt bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Their own voices, their feeling expressed through laughter and tears.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

All of it is fascinating. I guess the part that I found most touching is the reaction Gloria had to Anderson being gay. Also her relationship with men in general.

Any additional comments?

Good book.

Would you consider the audio edition of Troublemaker to be better than the print version?

Yes, Leah's emotions come through in her voice. Her "tough gal from Brooklyn" accent makes you understand her though process because it reminds you of her background thought the book. It is also better to hear her voice in instances where she is describing arguments or conversations with people, because her tone of voice (and humor) is sarcastic , which I don't think it would be so apparent if read from print.

What other book might you compare Troublemaker to and why?

Going Clear by Lawrence Wright. I would compare them both because they are both account from people who have left Scientology.

Which scene was your favorite?

I love the end. It's very insightful even for someone who has never been part of a cult. Very inspirational. It also has some very funny parts.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I actually did listen to it over a period of two days. I could not stop listening to it at any given chance during those two days.

Any additional comments?

Really worth it. A very good memoir full of interesting facts not only about scientology but about the inner workings of Hollywood, television shows , chat shows, Dancing with the stars, talk shows..
