Historia
Emma Carpenter lives in isolation with her golden retriever Laika, house-sitting an old beachfront home on the rainy Washington coast. Her only human contact is her enigmatic old neighbor, Deek, and (via text) the house’s owner, Jules. One day, she reads a poorly written—but gruesome—horror novel by the author H. G. Kane, and posts a one-star review that drags her into an online argument with none other than the author himself. Soon after, disturbing incidents start to occur at night.

I absolutely hated this book
Revisado: 02-19-25
It was poorly written. I wasted my money on this book, as well as the time I listened. I listened to most of it with the sound off so I could write a review. .

Historia
The women of the Cohen family are in crisis. Triggered by the death of their patriarch, Rudy, the glue that held them all together, everyone’s lives soon take a dramatic turn. Shelly, the younger of the two Cohen sisters, runs off to the West Coast to immerse herself in the emerging (and lucrative) world of technology. Her sister, Nancy, gets married at the age of twenty-one to a traveling salesman with a shadowy lifestyle, while their mother, Frieda, hurls herself into a boozy, troubled existence in Miami, trying to forget the past even as it haunts her.

What a stupid book
Revisado: 02-18-25
I could not finish this book. It was boring and rambled too much. I got tired of the references to him with no explanation as to who he was. Maybe I needed to read farther, but it wasn't worth it.

She knows this little girl’s angelic face; her mother had offered Josie help when she’d needed it most. Searching the girl’s house, Josie is devastated to find that Holly’s mother is dead, too, and her little sister is missing.

Love the books - don't like the reader
Revisado: 01-22-25
I love this series. But, the readers chosen leave a lot to be desired. This particular reader apparently thinks produce is spelled praduce. Don't the readers have to be vetted and know how to pronounce the written word. Even accounting for accents, how can one pronounce produce with an A.
So disappointing.

Historia
This ambitious, electrifying work traces the harrowing journey of the famed Sarajevo Haggadah, a beautifully illuminated Hebrew manuscript created in 15th-century Spain. When it falls to Hanna Heath, an Australian rare-book expert, to conserve this priceless work, the series of tiny artifacts she discovers in its ancient binding—an insect wing fragment, wine stains, salt crystals, a white hair—only begin to unlock its deep mysteries.

Mostly a good story but a bad reader
Revisado: 01-21-25
I thought the stories within the stories were too long. I understand they explained various items but they didn't hang together. There was no explanation as to how the book got from one place to another.
I thought the reader was a good choice in that she had the right accent and did the various voices well, BUT SHE AUDIBLY SWALLOWED too many times. Once is too much and, once you hear it, you can't unhear it.

The reader was awful. The book was too long.
Revisado: 01-15-25
The story line for this book was OK, but it went on too long. There were way too many things that happened that added nothing to the story.
The reader was TERRIBLE. If you are going to be an audible book reader, you need to learn NOT TO AUDIBLY SWALLOW while reading.
A disappointing book!

Revisado: 02-14-24
I really enjoy the Josie Quinn books. But, Eliidh Beaton is not a good reader. She slurs over a lot of words and over pronounces others. She is obviously from a different culture. I got REALLY tired of he pronouncing the work eat/ate as et.

Historia
Combining vibrant novelistic storytelling with extensive research, interviews, and previously unpublished accounts, Simon Parkin describes for the first time the role that women played in developing the Allied strategy that, in the words of one admiral, "contributed in no small measure to the final defeat of Germany." Rich with unforgettable cinematic detail and larger-than-life characters, A Game of Birds and Wolves is a heart-wrenching tale of ingenuity, dedication, perseverance, and love, bringing to life the imagination and sacrifice required to defeat the Nazis at sea.

A misleading explanation about the story

I enjoyed this book, but it had VERY little content about the women who did so much. It was quite informative about the operation, but gave very little credit to the women.

The narrator was AWFUL!
Revisado: 08-30-21
The story was OK, although Sabra was a bit too good to be true. The narrator was REALLY BAD. I wanted to scream every time she swallowed while reading. I almost gave up on the book because the narrator was so bad, but I did stick it out.

Good story, bad reader
Revisado: 10-12-17
I don't know why authors feel compelled to read their own works. I guess they feel that they are the only ones to do it justice, but that is not always the case.
I thought this was a very good story, and probably well written, but the reading was boring at best and I found it hard to keep paying attention.
