A Mindfully Murderous Masterpiece
Revisado: 02-01-25
Rarely does a book come along that is equal parts hilarious, intriguing, and… instructional? Murder Mindfully by Karsten Dusse is a wickedly clever novel that blends crime, satire, and self-help in a way that left me both laughing out loud and contemplating my own (entirely hypothetical, of course) list of people who might benefit from an abrupt and, dare I say, mindful departure from this mortal plane.
The story follows a beleaguered lawyer who, through the power of mindfulness, finds a unique way to handle his problems—namely, by eliminating them with deliberate, present-moment awareness. And honestly? The logic is hard to argue with. We’ve all had those days, those people, those unfortunate souls whose continued existence is an affront to inner peace. But instead of acting on any unwholesome urges, I’ve discovered a much healthier alternative: simply imagining their demise with serene, mindful intent. It’s basically meditation but with a body count (strictly in my head, for legal reasons).
Beyond its darkly funny premise, the book is genuinely smart and creative, sneaking in actual mindfulness techniques amidst the structured mayhem. Dusse’s sharp wit and deadpan delivery make for an absolute page-turner, so to speak, and I can confidently say that no self-help book has ever made me laugh this hard—or feel this at peace with the world. Joe Turner’s narration is exceptional.
Murder Mindfully is a delightfully twisted, utterly hilarious story that will teach you how to stay present, embrace tranquility, and, if necessary, plan the perfect theoretical crime. Highly recommended for anyone who has ever thought, “You know what would really help my stress levels? A little bit of well-intentioned homicide.”

Outstanding Narration Made a Very Good Book Even Better
Revisado: 01-17-25
This was my first book by Allen Eskens and, having just finished listening, I’m off to download another. This was so well written, with interesting and fully developed characters. There were a couple of incidents that were a little over the top and the ending was predictable and neatly wrapped, but not in a way that detracted from my overall enjoyment of this story. The narration was absolutely perfect. I’ve already recommended this one to a few people.

Historia
The year is 1970. Emma Gable, a blind teenager coming of age in a small industrial town in Western New York, is about as far from the seismic cultural transformations rocking campuses and city streets across America as a person can get. Emma escapes the chaos of her dysfunctional family by dialing up random numbers on the phone in her bedroom, just to see who'll answer.

Decent Performance Couldn’t Save A Terrible Story
Revisado: 12-15-22
The characters are so unlikeable, especially obnoxious Emma, that I couldn’t care less about the rambling storyline. What I heard of the performance was decent, but certainly not enough to keep listening.

Excellent Performance of a Very Good Story
Revisado: 08-15-22
I found this audiobook to be very enjoyable. I thought the male narrator was excellent. He has a nice voice, does a great job with accents, and his performance made it very easy to keep track of the multiple characters. I also liked that he wasn’t overly and unnecessarily dramatic. He made the characters feel real and allowed the listener to experience the story. Even a very good book (which this was) can be ruined when the narrator over acts and constantly pulls you out of the story. This was an interesting, well written, and multifaceted mystery and this audio version was like watching a film in your head. I enjoyed this very much and will look for more from this author.
