Historia
In 1800, Thomas Jefferson beat sitting President John Adams, albeit narrowly, and denied Adams the second term he coveted. Adams escaped to Massachusetts and left a curt note about the state of the White House stables behind. No congratulations were exchanged, and the two men did not speak to one another for over a decade afterwards. Jefferson's election to the presidency also left an important electoral legacy.

Historia
In the series' first volume, Interpreting American History: The Age of Andrew Jackson, experts on Jacksonian America address the changing views of historians over the past century on a watershed era in U.S. history. A two-term president of the United States, Jackson was a powerful leader who widened constitutional boundaries on the presidency, shaping policy himself instead of deferring to the wishes of Congress.

Historia
The world is being shaken by the collision of energy, climate change, and the clashing power of nations in a time of global crisis. The "shale revolution" in oil and gas - made possible by fracking technology, but not without controversy - has transformed the American economy, ending the "era of shortage", but introducing a turbulent new era. Almost overnight, the United States has become the world's number one energy powerhouse - and, during the coronavirus crisis, brokered a tense truce between Russia and Saudi Arabia.

Historia
American Schism reveals the roots of the rifts in America since its founding and what is really dividing red and blue America; the core issues that underlie all of today's bickering; and a detailed, effective plan to move forward, commencing what will be a long process of repair and reconciliation. Radwell changes the nature of the political debate by fighting unreason with reason, allowing Americans to firmly ground their differing points of view in rationality.

I only wish the narrator, who is on the whole pretty good, knew how to pronounce French, which is so important to the early part of this narrative.

Historia
Today, roses are a sign of love and luxury, but for over 30 years they provided the symbols for two houses at war for control of England. Thousands of people died and many more were injured fighting beneath the white rose of York and the red rose of Lancaster, and the noble families ruling England tore each other apart in a struggle that was as bitter as it was bloody.

Could this topic be made any more boring?!
Revisado: 09-20-15
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
More animated narration would have helped.
What could Charles River Editors have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
More focus on the interesting parts, and the people, not just battle after battle
Would you be willing to try another one of Paul Bloede’s performances?
I might, if the content were better.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Wars of the Roses?
It's not a matter of cutting, so much as it is a matter of reshaping the book to emphasize the most interesting parts, and to focus more on people less on the progress of the war
Any additional comments?
I like most of the Charles River offerings, but not this one!!

Historia
With a provocative point-counterpoint format, Rules of the Game features two widely respected professors - of widely divergent political views - in a lively discussion of how government works. Phillip Magness, a Texas Republican, and Paul Weissburg, a left-winged liberal, go head to head on such topics as "good" public administration, Congress, big business, and everyone's favorite bugaboo, bureaucratic dysfunction.

Two Professors Battling it Out over Politics

I like this but where is the written companion?
Revisado: 05-28-13
What made the experience of listening to The Modern Scholar: Rules of the Game: How Government Works and Why it Sometimes Doesn't the most enjoyable?
This is an unusual course in that there are two professors. At times it's a tad confusing because their voices are pretty similiar so it's sometimes confusing to know who one is listening to, and since they have different perspectives it's important to know.
Would you be willing to try another book from Professor Phillip W. Magness and Professor Paul Weissburg ? Why or why not?
Yes, but I'd like the written part that usually accompanies these.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Phillip W. Magness and Paul Weissburg ?
Yes
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It's a course!

How Putin got so much Power so fast....
Revisado: 07-25-12
Would you listen to The Man without a Face again? Why?
I liked this, quite a lot, and have listened so some chapters a number of times. Yes, she's a journalist, and there are a number of personal stories, but that makes it interesting. The story of Gary Kasparov's abortive attempt to run, is sad, and emblematic of what's happened.
Have you listened to any of Justine Eyre’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I like it, though a few of her Russian accents are a tad over-the-top.... But how else is she going to handle it?
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It's sad...unremittingly tragic.
Any additional comments?
I thought some of the other reviewers were unnecessarily tough on this book. It's a Point-of-View.....and doesn't profess to be anything else....
