Hang in there- the last 1/2 moves fast
Revisado: 04-20-25
This book starts a little slow & honestly I was starting to think maybe I would not finish it. But it’s for book club & I hate being that person who shows up without finishing the book. Well around 1/2 way through the story really takes off & I was happy I finished it. Well written, details that make you feel like you are in the scene & an excellent understanding of the human experience.

Historia
Jenny McLaine's life is falling apart. Her friendships are flagging. Her body has failed her. She's just lost her column at The Foof because she isn't the fierce voice new feminism needs. Her ex has gotten together with another woman. And worst of all: Jenny's mother is about to move in. Having left home at 18 to remake herself as a self-sufficient millennial, Jenny is now in her 30s and nothing is as she thought it would be. Least of all adulthood.

The point of the story was a bit hard to pinpoint. I thought the humor was good and pace was nice but never really fell in love with the characters.

Historia
The Second World War exists in the American historical imagination as a time of unity and optimism. In 1942, however, after a series of defeats in the Pacific and the struggle to establish a beachhead on the European front, America seemed to be on the brink of defeat and was beginning to splinter from within. Exploring this precarious moment, Campbell paints a portrait of the deep social, economic, and political fault lines that pitted factions of citizens against each other in the post-Pearl Harbor era....

History does indeed repeat
Revisado: 09-10-20
An excellent review of one of the most tumultuous years in history. A great reminder of how resilient we are and yet how much we cling to the past

Historia
Hear the original tales of Thor, Odin, and Loki, as the Vikings heard them long ago. Enjoy these ancient tales of tragedy, death, glory, and love, with all the gory and mystic details left out of the Hollywood versions. This collection, The Prose Edda, was the first time the Viking myths were assembled and written down in plain prose (before then, they existed only as oral poems). This abridged edition has only removed sections dealing with technical rules for writing poetry in the Viking style, but has included all the myths and legends.

Great reading but the book wasn’t great
Revisado: 09-09-20
I don’t recommend this book to anyone. It was very boring and had a 100 names that made the whole thing very confusing. I had to read it for school and if it wasn’t for that I wouldn’t have finished it. The actual ready of the book was great though!

Anguish, heartbreak
Revisado: 07-10-20
An honest look into the ways of slavery and the treatment of Black men and women in our young country. I felt like the stories told in US History were sanitized to make us more comfortable. What a terrible legacy we are left to undo.
