In the tradition of Desert Solitaire and Shop Class as Soulcraft, this is a remarkable debut from a major new voice in American nonfiction—a meditation on nature and life, witnessed from the heights of one of the last fire-lookout towers in America.

Historia
Not since Thoreau took us to Walden Pond has there been such an important work on the natural world. A Sand County Almanac is Aldo Leopold's simple expression of feeling for the environment at his weekend farm along the Wisconsin River. It is an inviting, gentle world - one that is rapidly disappearing.

Historia
Why has one game, alone among the thousands of games invented and played throughout human history, not only survived but thrived within every culture it has touched? What is it about its 32 figurative pieces, moving about its 64 black and white squares according to very simple rules, that has captivated people for nearly 1,500 years? Why has it driven some of its greatest players into paranoia and madness, and yet is hailed as a remarkably powerful intellectual tool?

1400 years of chess highlights, and I'm not talking about old games and this move and that move, although there is some of that as well. Narrator was very pleasant to listen to. Definitely worth time spent with it.

Historia
James Dommek, Jr., an Alaska Native writer and musician, sheds new light on a real-life mystery that pits Native American folklore against the US justice system. In the vast Alaskan Arctic, legend has it there once lived a mythic tribe—Iñukuns—that only existed in rumors and whispers. This changed forever when an actor-turned-fugitive, Teddy Kyle Smith, had an encounter that brought Iñukuns from myth to reality. Smith was an aspiring actor with a promising career until it all came quickly crashing down with a gunshot, a manhunt, bloodshed, and other frightful events.

Good listen
Revisado: 11-14-19
Best part of the book was the shortest part of the book. Author's trip into the outback showed the most promise for the book but for some reason, he cut it off as well as his narration. Would have loved to hear more about what really happened, both, in the outdoors and in his mind.

Historia
Bringing the magic and suspense of the All Souls Trilogy to a deeply satisfying conclusion, this highly anticipated finale went straight to number one on the New York Times best seller list. In The Book of Life, Diana and Matthew time-travel back from Elizabethan London to make a dramatic return to the present - facing new crises and old enemies. At Matthew’s ancestral home, Sept-Tours, they reunite with the beloved cast of characters from A Discovery of Witches - with one significant exception.

Disappointed in the easy victories.
Revisado: 10-01-19
The series had two major flaws that really glared at you. First, Diana, who grew into such strength and power had two troubling weaknesses. 1.) For being so intelligent, she was an unreasonable hot head and became super angry at little ridiculous things. 2.) She was a modern day woman who as I said earlier was highly intelligent and yet constantly fell into weak female stereotypes.
Second major flaw, the victories won over such glaringly evil characters as presented in the three books were far too easily won. Even as powerful as she was, more would be required in sacrifice from her and those who fought with her than was rendered. Matthew was the only one who truly was challenged, everyone else didn't receive so much as a scratch. This just doesn't correlate with such mighty clashes of power and evil.

Historia
Author Brin-Jonathan Butler was granted unique access to the two-and-half-week tournament (the World Chess Championship) and watched every move. In The Grandmaster, he aims to do for Magnus Carlsen what Norman Mailer did for Muhammed Ali in The Fight, John McPhee did for Arthur Ashe in Levels of the Game, and David Foster Wallace did for Roger Federer in his famous New York Times Magazine profile. Butler captures one of the world’s greatest sportsmen at the height of his powers and attempts to decipher the secret to that greatness.
