This multicast dramatisation of Arabian Nights: Volume 1 is an Audible Original reenvisioning of three iconic tales - with a twist. Adapted by the great Marty Ross, whose previous audio dramas include Romeo and Jude, Dark Shadows, Doctor Who and Blood and Stone, listeners can expect to hear Sheherezade, Ali Baba & 40 Thieves and Julnar the Sea Born as they've never done before.

A great rendition with all the vocal talent and dramatization deserving of a book as infamous Arabian Nights.

I must confess that I’ve never read the actual book due to the old world language (not for lack of trying) but I love the telling of this story! The tale plays well and is distinct in each actor’s performance.
Having previously watched only the Hallmark rendition (which seems rather accurate thus far), I have an idea of how the stories go and this particular telling doesn’t disappoint.

Historia
Set in Los Angeles during the era of early 19th-century Colonial Spanish California, the story introduces us to wealthy, young aristocrat Don Diego de la Vega, son of the richest ranchero in the country. Don Diego is an idler who has never concerned himself with more than the cut of his clothes. Unlike other full-blooded youths of his age, he presents himself as a fop, lacking in vigor, vitality, and strength. But Vega’s timorous reputation is merely a mask to conceal his alter ego—El Zorro.

Val Kilmer Kills It!!
Revisado: 10-05-22
Val Kilmer is an excellent choice for Zorro in this book! Honestly, I wish there were more books with him narrating! He plays the 'gentlemanly' Don and the Masked Crusader perfectly, each with distinctive flair!
The other cast is also very well done! For the non-native Spanish speaker, it can be a little tricky in the beginning as some characters' accents are often pretty thick for some characters, but as you stick to it, you'll get the hang of it.

Between the years when the oceans drank Atlantis and the gleaming cities...there was an Age undreamed of, when shining kingdoms lay spread across the world like blue mantles beneath the stars.... Hither came Conan, the Cimmerian, black-haired, sullen-eyed, sword in hand...to tread the jeweled thrones of the earth under his sandalled feet.

Terrific Reading!!
Revisado: 10-05-22
This was an excellent reading of the story but I was losing my mind every time the narrator mispronounced "Cimmerian".
Robert E Howard is a legendary storyteller who profoundly earns his place in American literature with these short stories! Be prepared to keep a dictionary or dictionary app on hand, its not hard to figure out the meaning based on context but its nice to learn the words for when they come up again.

Good story, good reading.
Revisado: 06-09-20
I enjoyed everything Ankara the book but the narrator doesn’t have a very wide range. I feel an additional reader for a few other voices would have been beneficial.
