Historia
Opal is a lot of things—orphan, high school dropout, full-time cynic and part-time cashier—but above all, she's a determined to find a better life for her younger brother Jasper. One that gets them out of Eden, Kentucky, a town remarkable for only two things: bad luck and E. Starling, the reclusive nineteenth century author of The Underland, who disappeared over a hundred years ago. All she left behind were dark rumors—and her home. Everyone agrees that it’s best to ignore the uncanny mansion and its misanthropic heir, Arthur. Almost everyone, anyway.

Marshall Miller would’ve remembered her face even if he hadn’t seen it on a MISSING poster. When a young woman disappears in his small town, the investigation hinges on Marshall’s haunted sighting of her, crying in the back seat of a police car driven by a cop named Maddox. There’s only one problem: no local cop named Maddox exists. But the speeding ticket he handed to Marshall certainly does.

Historia
He is our best hope. He is our last hope. He is our only hope. On a lonely moor in northern England, the body of a young woman is discovered. In the south, a girl lies buried beneath a Saxon mound. To the southeast, the ruins of a priory hide a human skull. Each is a sacrifice, a summons. And something in the darkness has heard the call. Charlie Parker has also heard it, and from the forests of Maine to the deserts of the Mexican border, from the canals of Amsterdam to the streets of London, he will track those who would cast the world into darkness.

Needs a better narrator
Revisado: 10-29-19
This is one of my favorite series of books, but boy do we need a new narrator! His basic narration is fine but the accents he tries for are cringe worthy and distract from a fine plot. Charlie Parker and friends deserves better!

Historia
After a bizarre and disturbing incident at the funeral of matriarch Marian Savage, the McCray and Savage families look forward to a restful and relaxing summer at Beldame, on Alabama's Gulf Coast, where three Victorian houses loom over the shimmering beach. Two of the houses are habitable, while the third is slowly and mysteriously being buried beneath an enormous dune of blindingly white sand. But though long uninhabited, the third house is not empty. Inside, something deadly lies in wait.

WOW!!!
Revisado: 09-12-16
If you could sum up The Elementals in three words, what would they be?
Atmospheric Southern Gothic
What did you like best about this story?
A haunted house story that didn't rely on gore (though there is some) and cheap tricks to build suspense.
What does R.C. Bray bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
He did a very good job of voicing all the characters.
Who was the most memorable character of The Elementals and why?
India, I think.
Any additional comments?
I love a good haunted house story, but they are hard to find. I'd rank this right up there with The Shining, Haunting of Hill House, and Julian's House. I know I will listen to this one again!

Remember that car that passed you near midnight on Route 66, doing 105 with its lights off? You wondered where it was going so quickly on that dark, dusty stretch of road, motor roaring, the driver glancing out the window as he blew by. You just saw the founder of the Suicide Motor Club. Be grateful his brake lights never flashed. Be grateful his car was already full.

Why isn't Christopher Buehlman Famous?
Revisado: 07-02-16
What did you love best about The Suicide Motor Club?
Vampires are everywhere in fiction now. It's refreshing to find vampires who are EVIL. And the idea of them driving muscle cars and terrorizing motorists? Awesome.
What other book might you compare The Suicide Motor Club to and why?
The Lesser Dead (also by Christopher Buehlman). Nightflyer by Stephen King. Really, its a unique idea.
What about Christopher Buehlman’s performance did you like?
Rarely do authors read their own work as well as Mr. Buehlman. His accent for Luther was perfect. He did a great job.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes! Life got in the way and it took me two days.
Any additional comments?
Do yourself a favor and get this title! Along with my two other favorites of his, The Lesser Dead (sooo good) and Between two Fires (one of my all time best books -- it'll make you think!)

A Head Full of Questions!
Revisado: 07-02-16
If you could sum up A Head Full of Ghosts in three words, what would they be?
Engaging, intelligent, thought-provoking (it counts as one word if I hyphenate it, right?)
What was one of the most memorable moments of A Head Full of Ghosts?
The ending. I have so many questions! What I like so very much about this novel is that the author has left room for the reader to form theories and opinions. I can't wait until friends read or listen to this so we can discuss it!
Which character – as performed by Joy Osmanski – was your favorite?
Merry and Margery. The sisters are at the heart of the story, everyone else is incidental, I think. Merry is the narrator of the story, and charming in her own way. And yet, every first person narrative has an unreliable narrator. We only get the facts as she wants us to see them. Again, fascinating.
If you could rename A Head Full of Ghosts, what would you call it?
I like the title, though the "ghosts" are not literal.
Any additional comments?
A thinking person's thriller.

Terrorists have acquired a terrible new weapon that can crash the power grid and plunge America into a new dark age. And in that terrible darkness, a dreadful plague will be released. If the lights go off, nothing can stop the bioweapon from killing millions. At the same time, the intelligence services are being torn apart from within by a plague of betrayal, murder, and suicide.

Joe Ledger for President!!
Revisado: 05-31-16
Where does Kill Switch rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
All the Joe Ledger books are excellent and belong right at the top of my list.
What did you like best about this story?
I'd tell you, but it might spoil the story for you. Let's just say that Echo Team ends up intersecting with another Mythos I enjoy very much.
Which scene was your favorite?
It is impossible to choose one scene.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Several. When I figured out what was going on I squealed! A surprise, and very well done.
Any additional comments?
As anyone who has read any of my previous reviews knows, my favorite narrator EVER is Ray Porter. He is an Audio God. Just accept it.

Historia
Nobody knows the seedy underbelly of Las Vegas like Daniel Faust, a sorcerer for hire and ex-gangster who uses black magic and bullets to solve his clients' problems. When an old man comes seeking vengeance for his murdered granddaughter, what looks like a simple job quickly spirals out of control. Soon Daniel stands in the crossfire between a murderous porn director; a corrupt cop with a quick trigger finger; and his own former employer, a racket boss who isn't entirely human.

A Disappointment
Revisado: 05-31-16
Is there anything you would change about this book?
The narrator. His Cajun accent was abysmal. But even worse was his "Scottish" accent for Caitlin..... half the time she sounded Irish and the rest of the time she sounded like a gypsy fortune teller. It distracts mightily from the story.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
The story was very slow. These supernatural noir books (which I love) need a bit of humor to lighten them up....think Harry Dresden. This book? Not so much. The characters were very one dimensional, which is a shame.
What didn’t you like about Adam Verner’s performance?
Think I addressed that above.
Could you see The Long Way Down being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
It could be. No particular actor springs to mind.
Any additional comments?
There are so many titles in the modern supernatural/noir that you'd enjoy more. Jim Butcher, Mike Carey's Felix Castor, and of course Sandman Slim. Give them a whirl.
