Historia
It’s a beautiful day in Newport, Rhode Island, when Phoebe Stone arrives at the grand Cornwall Inn wearing a green dress and gold heels, not a bag in sight, alone. She's immediately mistaken by everyone in the lobby for one of the wedding people, but she’s actually the only guest at the Cornwall who isn’t here for the big event. Phoebe is here because she’s dreamed of coming for years—she hoped to shuck oysters and take sunset sails with her husband, only now she’s here without him, at rock bottom, and determined to have one last decadent splurge on herself.

Historia
The 2:00 a.m. call is the first time Lexie Vidler has heard her sister's voice in years. Annie is a drug addict, a thief, a liar - and in trouble, again. Lexie has always bailed Annie out, given her money, a place to sleep, sent her to every kind of rehab. But this time, she's not just strung out - she's pregnant and in premature labor. If she goes to the hospital, she'll lose custody of her baby - maybe even go to prison. But the alternative is unthinkable.

Powerful story, terrible narration
Revisado: 02-27-23
This story could have been so powerful with the right narrator. I almost quit many times because the narration was so flat.

Historia
Being the middle child has its ups and downs. But for Grace, an only child who was adopted at birth, discovering that she is a middle child is a different ride altogether. After putting her own baby up for adoption, she goes looking for her biological family, including: Maya, her loudmouthed younger bio sister, who has a lot to say about their newfound family ties. And Joaquin, their stoic older bio brother, who has no interest in bonding over their shared biological mother.

A Courageous Story of a Family
Revisado: 04-19-22
Mimi Lemay weaves the story of her own spiritual journey growing up in an Orthodox Jewish community with the present day journey of finding her way as a mother of a transgender child so artfully. I fell in love with this family and I didn’t want the book to end. I think Mimi’s book along with “This is How it Always Is” by Laurie Frankel should be required reading for all humans. How can you not fall in love with these kids and how can your heart not break for what these families go through to make a way for their kids in the world? Thank you, Mimi, for having the courage to share your story. Thank you, Jacob, for giving your blessing for your mom to do so. I hope this book will change many, many lives.

Historia
At 17 years old, Ruthie Lindsey is hit by an ambulance near her home in rural Louisiana. She's given a five percent chance of survival and one percent chance of walking again. One month later after a spinal fusion surgery, Ruthie defies the odds, leaving the hospital on her own two feet. Just a few years later, newly married and living in Nashville, Ruthie begins to experience debilitating pain. Her case confounds doctors and after numerous rounds of testing, imaging, and treatment, they prescribe narcotic painkillers - lots of them.

Hearing this powerful story read by Ruthie Lindsey herself was so intimate and moving. I felt it ALL right along with her and couldn’t stop listening. Thank you Ruthie for the courage and vulnerability it must have taken to share your story. It leaves me feeling a deep sense of love, hope and resilience that’s possible for all of us.

These are the faces that call me "mom", the three children who made me a mother. When I started my journey into parenthood I never thought it would look like this. I never planned on having three adopted children, and I certainly never imagined that two of them would have Down syndrome. But like most of the things God does, once we stepped into the craziness and confusion of the unknown and unplanned, we quickly realized that we were indeed among the lucky few.

Historia
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.
