Motivating
Revisado: 01-11-18
I really liked the way the material was presented, including the humor. I am not obese, but am a little overweight and I've found this information compelling enough to give intermittent fasting a try. I was afraid I'd get really hungry and jittery or really tired, but actually feel quite energized. It's too soon to know if this will work for me to lose weight. The author is not selling a supplement, device or insisting that there is one right way to implement his ideas. It is definitely worth the read.

Historia
Anna Fox lives alone - a recluse in her New York City home, unable to venture outside. She spends her day drinking wine (maybe too much), watching old movies, recalling happier times...and spying on her neighbors. Then the Russells move into the house across the way: a father, mother, their teenaged son. The perfect family. But when Anna, gazing out her window one night, sees something she shouldn't, her world begins to crumble. And its shocking secrets are laid bare.

Good not Amazing
Revisado: 01-11-18
I found the story to be good. My feelings regarding the main character, Anna, ranged from sympathy to annoyance. The author emphasized her drinking with meds too much. She frequently spilled the Merlot and some of her reasoning and outbursts were childish for someone so educated. Some of the twists were very predictable, but others could have gone a few different ways. I did like the ending. Some of it was slow progressing, but otherwise it was an enjoyable listen.

Good First Lisa Gardner Listen
Revisado: 07-11-16
This was my first Lisa Gardner listen. The storyline looked interesting even though I was jumping in the middle of a series. I didn't feel that I was missing anything from earlier books by starting with this one. This was a mystery/thriller with lots of twists to keep you guessing. There is a mixture of past and present. I wasn't a big fan of D.D. Warren. I found her to be a little on the snarky side, so I'm not sure if I will listen to other books in this series. Charlie's story and character is what kept me interested. The ending was not disappointing, so I felt it was a solid 4 star.

Historia
Soon to be a major motion picture directed by Tommy Lee Jones, The Homesman is a devastating story of early pioneers in 1850s American West. It celebrates the ones we hear nothing of: the brave women whose hearts and minds were broken by a life of bitter hardship. A "homesman" must be found to escort a handful of them back East to a sanitarium. When none of the county’s men steps up, the job falls to Mary Bee Cuddy - ex-teacher, spinster, indomitable and resourceful.

Mixed Thoughts
Revisado: 02-18-16
The story line for this book seemed like it would be interesting and it was. It gave a good feel for the difficult lives of homesteaders. The narrator was good and I it kept me interested to the end. There is a recurring theme of women being driven to their breaking point throughout. There are two main characters in the story and the surprising twist with one of them just didn't fit the persona projected by the author. I really felt the story would have been better without that 'twist'. This is not an uplifting story. It is constant hardship.

Bizarre OCD
Revisado: 09-29-15
As others have mentioned, the narrator was perfect for this book. In YOU, you are in the mind of Joe, who is obsessed with Beck in a twisted, bi-polar way. You live his thought process. Some have rated the book low for being crude, but this is a disturbed person we are talking about, so I didn't find it to be misplaced. Others find his ranting juvenile, but again, these are the thoughts of a disturbed mind. It could have ended many different ways, but leaves you thinking there could be a sequel....which I'd definitely listen to. This one kept me listening.

Well Rounded Advice
Revisado: 09-25-15
Any additional comments?
I've listened to quite a few wellness related books and typically they focus on one aspect of diet, exercise or well-being. I really liked that this book covered all three as being inter-related in the offered solution for a healthy metabolism. She gives detailed information to support her conclusions. Much of the information covered can't be followed by listening to this book in audio format, it is just too much to remember. The accompanying PDF doesn't list the supplements or any of the guidelines for using them, so a digital or paper version of this book would have been more useful, so I could reference them to do some research on them myself. My only two criticisms are the focus on protein powders and substitute sweeteners. Protein supplementation might be necessary for non-meat eaters, but a balanced diet should provide the necessary protein without funky powder products, in my opinion. Also, I felt there was a lot on sweeteners/sugar substitutes. The why not to use them part was great, but I'm not sold on the recommended ones. The product Just Like Sugar, which is not carb-free, was pushed and a lot of sweet, baked recipes mentioned (maybe to promote cookbook) as though they should be eaten regularly instead of sparingly. Those are minor, though, compared to the useful wealth of information in the book.

Weak Plot
Revisado: 09-03-14
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
The narrator was fine, though sometimes he spoke low, so I had to adjust the volume up and down. The listening experience was not the problem, the storyline was.
Any additional comments?
This book really didn't have a clear sense of direction. Events happened, but I never really felt like the storyline with the antagonist was fully resolved. What was the climatic event left too many unanswered questions regarding why that event ended the pursuit. There was a secondary storyline of anti-Semitism that also came to no real conclusion. This is the first book by this author that I've listened too. I don't plan to try others.

Through the eyes of the mentally twisted
Revisado: 08-05-14
Any additional comments?
I really love the variety of Stephen King books and this does not disappoint. There are no supernatural happenings or ghostly horrors, but instead you look through the eyes of a twisted individual and also through the eyes of a retired detective. Some twists in the plot were predictable and there were a few that were not, which made for a good balance. As usual, King did a great job of developing the characters without overdeveloping them to allow your imagination to see the story unfold.

Important Information
Revisado: 08-05-14
Any additional comments?
I feel that the information in this book is very important and it is a worth while read. The suggested links between gluten, Alzheimer's and dementia is rather compelling. Additionally, the suggestion that gluten sensitivity and its effects can be far reaching without having Celiac disease makes you want to have some tests run. I've previously listened to Wheat Belly and both of Gary Taubes' audio books as well as a frequent reader of Mark's Daily Apple website. As such, these concepts were really not new to me, but I feel that the focus was a little too heavy on gluten and not the wider issue of many other carbohydrates, such as sugar. Sugars are addressed, but not to the extent of gluten.
