I absolutely love the bridge kingdom duologies and this set kicks off with an exceptional entry.
Fast paced, action packed, intrigue and mystery, as well as tension filled and a sprinkling of spice, DLJ delivers again!
I highly recommend this book, the series, and really anything DLJ because she hooks you in and makes you bed for more.

A gothic style competition like no other
Revisado: 12-27-24
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The neurodivergent representation, the mistaken identity, the found family, the overall gory competition, it was all chef’s kiss. An outstanding debut that makes me want more from her.
I also loved Laura’s reading. I’ve followed her on socials for a while but haven’t had a chance to listen to one of her narrations and this was just perfect.

I'm a fixer. A lover. Always searching for the right fit. And I come up empty every time. My desires are unusual. I don't feel whole until I'm in the middle, holding it all together. Which makes having a romantic relationship really difficult. Until them. Two people. An unraveling marriage. Love on the rocks. And they want me. To put them back together again. Problem is, once they're fixed, where does that leave me? I sure as hell hope I stick like glue.

A true detective’s novel
Revisado: 01-22-22
A true detective’s novel. I really enjoyed the mystery aspect of this book and the hunt for the truth that occurs. Nick is your quintessential NYPD detective, looking for the truth and connecting the dots of things that most others wouldn’t see. Here the hunt is on for someone who is either assisting in others’ suicides, or is making it look like others are committing it. It’s literally a race against the clock to save people.
I’m not one to try and guess the outcome of the mystery in books but the answer to the “whodunit” here shocked me; I did not see that one coming. I enjoyed the touches of romance and building of relationships for the NYPD people, depicting them as well rounded individuals, rather than one dimensional. I also enjoyed the “side story” of Sandra and Laura. I have not read any other novels or stories by this author but it sounded like it was a continuation from another book in this series and it makes me want to go hunt it down.
I did listen to the audiobook of this novel and the narrator was pretty good. I enjoyed his inflection and his pace, however I did notice there were issues with pauses and such during what seemed like readings of other things, like reading a suicide letter or something else someone wrote. I’m not sure if that’s from editing or the way it was written out for the narrator, but it made me withdraw from what I was hearing. Overall, good bordering on great performance.

This one got me hook, line, and sinker
Revisado: 06-28-21
Sometimes there's series where you just can't fully get into book 1, but book 2 blows you out of the water. This is the case for me with Stepping Stone, book 2 in the Stone series.
We pick up where Heart of Stone left off, with Krys and Alex exploring how much of themselves they want to give to the other, while staying within the bounds of their “agreement.” I liked the push and pull that each MC went through to determine what they were feeling and determining how to express that to the other.
We get to hear how the relationship, as well as Alex and Krys, grow; from opening oneself up, to new roles, we see the strength of each character, as well as their weaknesses and their drive to overcome them. The sexual aspect in this book is more romantic than in the first book, while not losing the BDSM.
I also enjoyed getting to know more of the side characters, such as Hale and Justine.
Alex and Krys are tested as they haven’t been before. Will they come out hard as stone or crumble under the pressure?
I continue to enjoy Lacy Laurel and Jeffrey Kafer as the narrators for this series. I thought both did a great job.

Good introduction to a fabulous series
Revisado: 06-28-21
3 of 5 stars.
This audiobook was just okay for me. There were some things I enjoyed and some I flat out didn’t. 3 stars because it kept me entertained, and the beginning and end were enough to have me seeking out book 2.
I enjoyed the first few hours of the audiobook, being introduced to recent college graduate Krystina “Kris” Cole, and her (literally) falling for Alexander Stone, a Billionaire who was interested in buying the property housing Krystina’s job, Wally’s supermarket. I also enjoyed the last two hours of the audiobook, hearing Krystina opening herself up and accepting more of the relationship, and trusting Alexander, until it all went to hell (of course). The sex scenes, the few there were, were hot and sensual.
I found Alex to be a tough Protagonist/love interest to like. He may be written as a Dom but I didn’t feel that he was actually supporting Kris in discovering the BDSM lifestyle and “training her” as a sub. His internal monologue stated numerous times that the Dom/sub relationship didn’t work without trust and honesty, yet he withheld so much from Kris so that the relationship already faced an uphill battle.
I thoroughly enjoyed the narrators for this audiobook. I thought both Lacy Laurel and Jeffrey Kafer did a wonderful job.
This is book one in a series, so beware the cliffhanger. It was enough to keep me reading the series though, and as of about 25% in, I enjoy 2 a whole lot more than 1.
Trigger warning for survivors of sexual and/or physical abuse.
If you do not enjoy books about BDSM then this book/series flat out isn’t for you.

Stunning conclusion, so much love and drama
Revisado: 06-25-21
The stunning conclusion to the Stone trilogy which had me anxiously listening for what happened next.
The Stone series comes to a close, with all of the mysteries answered and the bond between Alexander and Krystina tested in numerous ways.
I loved listening to Krys standing up for herself and her needs, and pushing Alex to talk to her instead of controlling everything in their life. Alex may still be the Dom in the bedroom, but to make the relationship work her needs to give up trying to completely control Krys’ life. We experience the push and pull of love and a long term relationship with the BDSM lifestyle.
While I understood and appreciated the dramatic aspect that Justine’s storyline brought, I thought she was selfish and caused more turmoil for Alexander and thereby Krys. I don’t think I’ve ever viewed her as a “good sister” to Alex. I did thoroughly enjoy reading more about Allie, Matteo, and Hale, and seeing how their lives were changing in the background to Alex and Krys’ story.
Wonderful conclusion to the series.

Collection of sexy and sinful short stories
Revisado: 06-23-21
This selection of stories lives up to its title. Not only are these shorts sexy as hell, they’re sinful; including hidden identities, forbidden romance, friends-to-lovers, cheating, age gap, FFM, babysitter, paranormal, and more romance/erotica tropes. A few of these stories are presented as introductions of Mountford’s other books. This collection is not to miss for those who want to explore their naughty side in small bites.
I really liked the narrator. She was easy to listen to and had great inflection. I would gladly listen to her narration again and again. One downside to the audiobook is that the recording wasn’t the best quality; you could hear background noises at times and there was a slight echo.
Breakdown of each story:
Broken:
A tease of a story that will continue in Shattered. I do enjoy a book that starts off grabbing your attention, so long as there’s a reason for it, and here there was. I enjoyed the story buildup. The sex was important to the story but it was to describe the relationship between Vickie and Jake rather than it being the sole focus of the story. A great beginning that will have me eagerly searching for the whole book.
Just once:
A short story that can either be read as a one and done, or can continue in the story Just Friends. This one was more about the sex rather than a full story, granted it being an into of a full story would certainly whet the appetite.
Valentine’s Misadventures:
Now titled Reckless when looking at Mountford’s stand alone books. Reads more like the beginning of a story, and I hope so because I really enjoyed hearing about Luke and Sophie, and how they’re on the run from her Mafia father.
Together in Sydney:
Another short story that reads like the beginning of a novel. I really enjoyed this story, getting to know about the past and rekindling of a high school friendship. The sexual tension is well built upon, and doesn’t feel like it’s the sole focus of the story, but rather an aspect of this relationship growing
Training Tracy:
As the title suggests this is a story about training a young woman for a sexual experience. There’s so much sex in this one, though it does come with a backstory. This is a FFM, swinger’s story. I can only give 2 stars to this story. I can’t explain why I didn’t like it, but it just rubs me the wrong way.
Blood Lust:
One might think this is just another vampire story, but as someone who has read tons of vampire stories I liked the uniqueness of the FMC in this one. We hear Lucien looking for prey to devour when he comes across Kate, who has her own secret “mission”. Upon discovering Lucien’s biggest secret Kate is thrust into a whole new world.
Sweet Temptations:
First part of a 3 part story; this one about the babysitter. Sets up the rest of the stories well. One of the most blatant examples of cheating in this book.
DSL also includes a sneak peek at The Boss’ Daughter, the second part of the Sweet Temptation series.

4 of 5 Stars. A fun and cute office romance read.
Revisado: 05-31-21
It lives up to its title with Miss Kendall Tate being the “understanding” and dutiful Assistant to lawyer hot shot Liam Davenport, who is an ass. Also lives up to its title with there being many misunderstandings between the two along the way. From what’s expected to the intentions of each other, there was a lack of communication at times that lead to more drama ensuing.
I enjoyed the main characters with their complex backgrounds and personal baggage to overcome. I also appreciated the slow buildup of romance throughout the novel, building the sexual tension. I loved the supporting characters and their interaction with the MCs and heckling them about if they were together or not. Made it feel even more realistic.
I enjoyed the back and forth narration, with Kendall being read by Ariel Royce, and Liam read by Christopher Rourke.

Steamy MMF “bad boy” rock star romance
Revisado: 05-08-21
“Exhale and move on” is a mantra Rick Fars has lived by. When something isn’t going right, just exhale and move on. He has become a bit disenfranchised with the “rock star” life. Sure he’s still getting laid and having fun, but it has become more of the same old. That is until he starts allowing himself to feel his feelings, and to explore what they could be if he followed through on them.
I really enjoyed listening to Rick’s story, and jeesh was the sex HOT. There’s BDSM scenes, M/M, and (multiple) threesomes. This story is not for the faint of heart with the explicitness.
I enjoyed the insight to the turmoil someone in the spotlight could be feeling in their relationships and with themself. Rick is someone who is still exploring who he is and what he wants in life. He may be the “bad boy” but he also has a soft side, planning a benefit concert for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
The one thing that made me not be able to give “Exhale and Move On” a 5-star rating was the bouts of slight homophobia from one of the prominent characters. While that may be more realistic, I wasn’t a fan of reading that in a romance novel meant to be MMF.
I have not read K.L. Shandwick before, but the smooth writing (and narration) in this novel drew me in. I also enjoyed all the information about the the other couples and musicians surrounding Rick, leaving me researching the other books with said characters.
Bolton Hill also did a fabulous job narrating “Exhale and Move On.” His voice and tone was spot on for everything. He sounded like he was actually experiencing the feelings the characters were.
