McCullough explains through a poignant summary of history of the revolution why he does what he does.
While acknowledging the heroic nature of the founders, he more so acknowledges the human side of these great men. In this speech, he wanted people to know that the pursuit of history goes beyond events. It requires understanding of the personal character, motivations and rationale of the individuals. Our founding was done by ordinary men placed in extraordinary circumstances with a common belief. Uncovering these facts has been McCullough's passion.

There are two unabridged versions of this audiobook on Audible. This version's presentation by J Charles is rushed and less enjoyable. Approximately 5 hours shorter than the version I exchanged for narrated by Michael Pritchard. Much more enjoyable. Typical great story by Clancy.

It's ironic that a Brit needs to remind Americans of why and how this country and its basic principles should be cherished. His warning to us to not devolve into what Britain and the Eurozone have become and pointing out those warning signals evident in the US today should cause thoughtful Americans to take note.
This book is great civics lesson and a wake up call for those Americans who've lost touch with what makes the US a beacon of liberty and hope.
