Great family history by JM
Revisado: 03-09-24
Thank you for your persistence in chronicling your mother’s story so you could make sense of your own James. This should inspire others to truly uncover and understand the real meaning of love and it’s importance. Fascinating family story.

Historia
In 1972, when workers in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, were digging the foundations for a new development, the last thing they expected to find was a skeleton at the bottom of a well. Who the skeleton was and how it got there were two of the long-held secrets kept by the residents of Chicken Hill, the dilapidated neighborhood where immigrant Jews and African Americans lived side by side and shared ambitions and sorrows. Chicken Hill was where Moshe and Chona Ludlow lived when Moshe integrated his theater and where Chona ran the Heaven & Earth Grocery Store.

Historia
When Nurse practitioner Layla Matthews awakens in her own coffin, she begins a journey that takes her to “The Body Auction,” where she uncovers a devious and meticulously orchestrated underground nightmare. Though the business of human trafficking has been all over the news, it has long remained a problem for “other people,” until Layla finds herself face-to-face with the realities of a depraved, multi-million-dollar-industry, and soon learns that the darkest depths of evil is much, much closer to home than she ever thought possible.

Wow! I really enjoyed this.

When I first started this I was thinking it was a typical crime/suspense. Not really interested. But then suddenly it took off and I couldn’t stop listening to it! Well done Lisa Mathis.

Historia
Raised by her beloved grandmother in tension-filled, post-segregation Virginia, Grace is barely a teenager when she loses her Maw Maw. Shellshocked, she is shipped up North to live with her formidably ambitious Aunt Hattie—a woman who firmly left behind her “undesirable” Southern roots in pursuit of upward mobility. Thrust into the world of the Black and socially ambitious, Grace finds herself trapped in a society of stifling respectability, fancy teas, and coveted debutante balls.

Couldn’t stop reading this.

The historical background comes to life with this writer’s craft. It affords the reader the benefit of walking in the shoes of these characters. Couldn’t get this in any history class.

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Revisado: 02-28-23
I enjoyed Dani’s book very much. I upped the speed from 1 to 1.1 and enjoyed it very much. Great characters!!! Storyline very relatable. Such a good book about real life. Some connections for me brought to mind, Ordinary People, by Judith Guest.
