Casey Fletcher, a recently widowed actress trying to escape a streak of bad press, has retreated to the peace and quiet of her family’s lake house in Vermont. Armed with a pair of binoculars and several bottles of bourbon, she passes the time watching Tom and Katherine Royce, the glamorous couple living in the house across the lake. They make for good viewing—a tech innovator, Tom is powerful; and a former model, Katherine is gorgeous.

Decent story, definitely twisty.
Revisado: 07-28-24
The narration confused me, as the narrator sounds significantly older than the main character she is playing. I liked the story and had no idea how the last few hours were going to go. I didn’t necessarily love the twist, but it was interesting enough to finish.

Surely these reviews are fake of FM has the most dense fanbase ever… spoilers included.
Revisado: 07-22-24
I didn’t love the woman narrator. The way she pronounced some words was… odd. However, after like 10 woman chapters in a row, I had forgotten about the man narrator who scared the crap out of me when suddenly it was a much louder chapter. Also the way he said Xanax 3 times in the same sentence was also… odd.
SPOILER:
However and more importantly: this will be the last FM book I read. Full stop. I thought the teacher was going to be the worst book I ever read (might still be tbh.) But, the plot holes are killer. Where did Liam park when he got to Olivia’s house? Olivia didn’t realize obviously he made it home if his dad was able to drive the same car back to her house? Also, speaking for myself really, but I suspect a lot of murder mystery readers, or at least all the ones I know, are 30 something woman with a pet or two. Why WHY does FM ALWAYS include animal cruelty?? We get it, ONE sign of psychopathy (or sociopathy, they’re used interchangeably for no reason in this book) is animal abuse. But is that the only thing she knows? Murderers exclusively start with animals? And even if that was the case, is it necessary to brutally describe this animal cruelty? No, it is not. It adds nothing to the story.
I’m annoyed I wasted a credit on this quick read, even though I should know better. If you’ve read this far, I highly DO NOT recommend any of her books and if you’re still considering, pass on these lame 5 stars and go check the Goodreads.

NSFW!

The story was… alright, but a lot longer than necessary. The deep dives into economics I suppose, we’re important to the story, but very boring. The story itself, not quite so believable. What really got me was the non stop racial and homophobic slurs. I get that parts of the book are set in a different time but jeeze. You can get your point across without the constant swearing and highly offensive wording. Absolutely not safe for work, for children, for traffic, at any time really besides headphones. It makes the characters really unlikeable. Not quite worth the credit, I was hoping for more.

Historia
A serial killer is on the loose in San Diego, and he has a most unusual M.O.: with each kill, he leaves behind objects with unclear meanings. Most of the recent killings are centered near Kendra Michaels' home and office, so it comes as no great surprise when the FBI shows up at her door. The investigators soon make a startling discovery: the left-behind objects are actually souvenirs of other unsolved serial murder cases in various US cities.

Really quite awful.
Revisado: 06-21-22
I thought the plot itself was interesting but lord these characters. The main character is ok on her own, but so contradictory it’s hard to look beyond. She says several times she doesn’t want to be involved in the case and yet continues to go out of her way to assert herself into the case and act as if she’s the most important on the team. But the boyfriend/not boyfriend love interest. Awful. I am mind boggled that this wasn’t written by a man because Lynch is possibly the worst character I’ve read. He basically sexually harasses the main character through the entire novel. He’s childish and everything is an innuendo. The main character of course, continuing to be contradictory, either can’t take her hands off him, or hates him. The plot could have made for an interesting story, but hard pass on this take. The narration was… ok, but her iteration of male voices was difficult to listen too.

One of my favorites.

This author is new to me but I really liked her writing. I thought the story was interesting and I was really guessing towards the end. I especially love that unlike a lot of other murder mystery books, there wasn’t graphic sex scenes that don’t add to the story. I hate that the genre has become NSFW. This one though, a gem. I also love the narrator. She did an array of characters male and female that were wonderfully done. I seek out her narration specifically.

Revisado: 04-09-22
I don’t expect much from free murder mystery books, but I’ve been in a good streak lately and thought this one looked alright. I made it about an hour in before I had to give up. I’m truly shocked this was written by a woman, as the descriptions of sex and bodies is so awkward and cringey. Not to mention, totally unnecessary. Like in the first five minutes the main character is describing his teenage daughters bodies… why?? Later, a description of a coworkers penis. For literally no reason. Adds nothing besides making this book nsfw. Maybe the story is alright, but I couldn’t make it past this super awkward hang up on describing genitals for no reason. Pass.

There is some interesting information, but the majority of the book is selling his hypnosis sessions, online and in person… for a hefty fee. Which is fine, but not what the description stated.
