Great performance; story not so much
Revisado: 11-15-22
Bohemian hipster cursed with immortality has to choose between her eldritch horror abuser and her manchild borderline-incel boyfriend…
Voice acting is incredible. Love the premise, but like Schwab’s earlier trilogy, I feel like the characters and the narrative let down the premise’s full potential. The story drags on, especially Part 2, and I found the characters to be super annoying. All style and no substance, but the style is hyper-affectation.

Well-read; hard to follow
Revisado: 03-13-21
This audiobook is really well-produced; Emily Woo Zeller is amazing. But the book is nonlinear and almost surreal, and it’s structured in such a way that I wanted to go back and look at what the author was doing with things like chapter numbers, etc. Overall I found it hard to follow and make sense of.
I’m curious to read it as a book, because I’m wondering if my frustration was with the format. Again, nothing wrong with the audiobook itself; I think it may just be one of those stories that’s better to actually read than to have read to.

Fun story, amazing voice work.
Revisado: 10-12-15
This book is Fear and Loathing meets grimdark. Maybe not for fantasy purists, but I found it well-paced, vibrant, oftentimes hilarious and occasionally poignant. Some standout characters (like Maroto and Purna) and a world that isn't meticulously-detailed, but rich enough. Really refreshing too, to see a world that is deliberately (almost gleefully) features sexual and gender diversity, but doesn't actually make a big stink about it.
LOVED the voice acting. I really really hope Angele Masters does the rest of this series; she gave each character a distinct presence and personality.

Amazing story, frustrating voice work
Revisado: 09-15-15
Hill does a great job as Fitz, but many other voices are grating, and seem at odds with the characters as voiced in earlier trilogies -- James Langton's Fool from the Tawny Man audiobooks in particular. And don't get me started on the Reyn Khuprus voice. The nasal whinging Hill gives him is completely unsuitable, not to mention hard to listen to.

Hackneyed & uneven
Revisado: 08-10-15
Premise was interesting, and pace was ok (despite slow start & awkward exposition). Pretty fun third act. Totally put off by the dialogue and characters; could've almost passed at times as satire rather than celebration of geek nostalgia.
