G.K. Chesterton is a master of words, plans, plots, and ideas. There is not one of his stories and essays that does not provoke the listener to profound consideration or serious self-examination.

What a pity it is when the reader or narrator decides to give to one of the main characters, a young man nineteen years of age, the cracking voice of a pubescent child or of a consumptive castrato.

If it was a minor character, one with three lines or less, the momentary irritation could be quickly forgotten and soon forgiven.

But the ridiculous thing proceeds throughout the book, until the listener winces whenever the character appears. After a time, one starts to wonder whether one will even finish it.

If the narrator learns to avoid this error, he will have a happy future, since his voice is otherwise excellent. But as it is, he is a reader I will henceforth be avoiding.

Horrible situations call for very tough decisions. This is an example of such. Will we learn the hidden lesson before it is too late?

Our children may not be physically butchered and eaten by rapidly propagating reptilio-centaurid aliens, but an ideology that is as pernicious, that led to all of the major genocides in our dark history has grasped our nation in its talons.

Buy these audio books. Play them for your boys. Let them enjoy them while learning. Your nation will thank you.

Like the voice of a man who got the surgery, and thinks he's a woman. I couldn't stand the castrate falsetto. I've tried to finish this f-ckin' thing three times now, but the f-ckin' reader, Robertson Dean, ruins it every f-ckin' time.

I'm deleting the audio book from my device yet again. If I can find _anyone_ else performing this, I'll buy it and try to wash the exquisitely horrible taste of Mr. Dean's voice out of my ears.

I mean bad. Pus-filled bleeding eyeball-bad. Mr. Dean has ruined one of my all time favorite books. I am angry and sad.

Kenneth Branagh has the perfect voice and cadence for reading the first book in CSL's Narnia Series. The dryness of late 18th Century London, the cruel dignity of ancient Charn, the verdant glory of new Narnia, the terrible and loving majesty of Aslan's eyes you can almost see them as Branagh reads. The story is about how Narnia was created, how evil came into it, and what was done to protect it. But that is an inadequate description. Could I do better than CS Lewis in portraying the story? Obviously not. I will say that I am jealous of all those who still have the Narnia stories to hear for the first time. But they, if they only knew it, would be jealous of me for all the richness I have gotten from multiple readings and listenings. You have a treasure in store for you.

If anyone wants a user's manual for their soul, here it is.

As in any proper users' manual, there are grave warnings, which it is dangerous to avoid.

Why would anyone who pronounces all of their S's like F's, ever, _ever_ think it a good idea to put out a book on audible.

I am especially irked at myself because I neglected to listen to the sample before I wasted my money on this abortion.

Hopefully at some point I will be able to buy the print version of this booklet in order that I may wash the "found of fo many effeff from my brain," and that, after only "liffening" to the introduction and half of the "firft" chapter.

A Lesson in Liberalism

if anyone wants to know where progressivism is heading, and some of the routes that they will take to impose it upon us, the action-filled sci-fi adventure/war stories in this series is a great primer.

And if, having read and taken seriously Kratman's warnings, the reader wonders what can be done to save ourselves from such a seemingly inevitable fate, the books give some guidance on what may be necessary in order to stop the scourge of liberal intersectionality.

Lest anyone think, based on the above, that the stories are dry and unexciting, I can most vehemently declare that they are not!

I'm not sure Stephenson wrote this book. The anachronisms (given the putative time period) abound and the shift in attitude since the 'prequel' is jarring.

The ephemeral nature of computer-based life is ignored by whomever wrote the book. CME's, solar flares, etc preclude a lasting existence, as does the real likelihood of another of mankind's periodic descents into barbarism. The author doesn't even attempt to address this, but blindly follows his pollyanna assumptions.

The attempt to recount basic reality (in the pseudo-creation myth) using no commonly known terms, while being obviously forced to use commonly known and used words, adds to the tediousness of the book.

In order to drudge through the book, I ended up putting the reading rate at the fastest comprehensible speed (something over 2X), and when things got especially tedious, skipping ahead, or even to the end of the chapter. This is totally unlike many of Stephenson's books, which I have slowed to 85%, just to relish the tale and to milk it for its depth and richness.

In short, this book was tedious and Stephenson should either fire his ghost writer, or retire from authorship.
