Historia
Richard Papen had never been to New England before his 19th year. Then he arrived at Hampeden College and quickly became seduced by the sweet, dark rhythms of campus life—in particular by an elite group of five students, Greek scholars, worldly, self-assured, and at first glance, highly unapproachable. Yet as Richard was accepted and drawn into their inner circle, he learned a terrifying secret that bound them to one another...a secret about an incident in the woods in the dead of night where an ancient rite was brough to brutal life...and lead to a gruesome death.

Donna Tartt isn’t a great narrator
Revisado: 02-08-25
Like The Goldfinch this book is populated by young people mostly undecided by more adult figures. There are stretches that had me hungry for every word and other sections that felt like her editor should have been firmer.

I don't get it
Revisado: 11-02-24
I never felt drawn in or cared about the characters. Three narration was mediocre. Nothing about the story struck me as original.

Misogyny
Revisado: 05-05-24
I don’t understand how Chandler became a respected writer. I can accept that the way women are treated in the book was due to it belonging to a different era. It was distasteful but I get that the book was written eighty-five years ago. My biggest issue was it wasn’t well written. The dialogue couldn’t be differentiated from the spoofs of noir detective stories.

Historia
On a brisk autumn day, a 13-year-old boy stands on the shores of the gray Atlantic, near a silent amusement park and a fading ocean resort called the Alhambra. The past has driven Jack Sawyer here: His father is gone, his mother is dying, and the world no longer makes sense. But for Jack everything is about to change. For he has been chosen to make a journey back across America - and into another realm. One of the most influential and heralded works of fantasy ever written, The Talisman is an extraordinary novel of loyalty, awakening, terror, and mystery.

I’ve read more than half of Stephen King’s work and The Talisman is my least favorite. It is a series of tropes.

Historia
Since his wife died, Ralph Roberts has been having trouble sleeping. Each night he wakes up a bit earlier until he's barely sleeping at all. During his late-night walks, he observes some strange things going on in Derry, Maine. He sees colored ribbons streaming from people's heads, two strange little men wandering around town after dark, and more. He begins to suspect that these visions are something more than hallucinations brought on by lack of sleep.

Decent Story but the Worst Production
Revisado: 06-22-21
The music used in this production is jarring and creates the wrong kind of tension. It’s like little kids banging pots in a recording studio. It’s also mixed way too loud compared to the reader. I have listened to hundreds of audio books and this was the worst production I’ve heard.

The good news is that you don't have to be dirty or gross to talk dirty. It can be as tender and gentle as a whisper... or as degrading and filthy as you want - shove it in my hole, slave! I show you all of it, for both men and women - how to conquer your issues and embrace dirty talk - it in a judgment and taboo-free zone.
