Historia
This quintessential coming-of-age novel describes the early life of Stephen Dedalus. It is set in Ireland during the 19th century, which was a time of emerging Irish nationalism and conservative Catholicism. Highly autobiographical in nature, the work is also notable for its being the first one in which Joyce uses innovative “stream of consciousness” writing style. A Portrait... follows Stephen Dedalus from his babyhood into early adulthood.

Historia
Serving as a powerful follow-up to Jordan Peterson’s book 12 Rules for Life, Dr. Gad Saad unpacks what is really happening in progressive safe zones, why we need to be paying more attention to these trends, and what we must do to stop the spread of dangerous thinking. A professor at Concordia University who has witnessed this troubling epidemic firsthand, Dr. Saad dissects a multitude of these concerning forces (corrupt thought patterns, belief systems, attitudes, etc.) that have given rise to a stifling political correctness in our society.

I work in IT and I'm frequently surrounded by co-workers, my "bubble" if you will. Sometimes, I feel that perhaps I'm wrong and all of the things I consider "extreme" are just the times changing. This book gives me hope that others are out there.

Historia
Why is The Book of Enoch so important to anyone interested in Biblical history? The answer is simple: It is directly quoted in the New Testament by Jude (vv.14-15). Themes of the book referenced in 2 Peter 2:1. Jesus also used content from The Book of Enoch in many of his sermons in Matthew and Luke. In this text, you will hear the word of God through this amazing document. We will take this amazing journey together and learn why this text is not an official book of the Bible.

Historia
I’ve been in this life for fifty years, been trying to work out its riddle for forty-two, and been keeping diaries of clues to that riddle for the last thirty-five. Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel, and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me. Recently, I worked up the courage to sit down with those diaries.

Historia
Good, modern, civilized Western men today are expected to think like "citizens of the world" - obligated to everyone and no one. Natural, meaningful tribal connections have been substituted with synthetic, disposable consumer identities. Without a sense of who they are and what group they have a place in, modern men are becoming increasingly detached, disoriented, vulnerable, and ever more easily manipulated.

Ridiculous
Revisado: 06-12-23
If this was supposed to be comedic, it was corny. If this was supposed to be some real philosophy to live by, good luck. Since I left the military and began working in the civilian sector, I've had a lot of people suggest this author's work. I realize now that they don't understand real military culture whatsoever. They hear this macho bullshit and must think that is what the military mindset is like. I'll let them know that they can read Jocko Willink or David Goggins. It's safe to skip this buffoon.

Historia
The very strange but nevertheless true story of the dark underbelly of a 1960s hippie utopia. Laurel Canyon in the 1960s and early 1970s was a magical place where a dizzying array of musical artists congregated to create much of the music that provided the soundtrack to those turbulent times. But there was a dark side to that scene as well. Many didn't make it out alive, and many of those deaths remain shrouded in mystery to this day.

This audio book was painful to listen to
Revisado: 03-13-23
This reads like a loose collection of second-hand stories that the author tries to tie together into some half-baked U.S. Intelligence/Military conspiracy. He does occasionally take a break to talk about how little talent David Crosby has or how promiscuous Michelle Phillips is. Overall, it comes off as childish storytelling with no real point other than they all lived in Laurel Canyon at one time or another.

To be sure, neoliberalism has contributed to a number of alarming trends, not least of which has been a massive growth in income inequality. Yet as the eminent historian Gary Gerstle argues in The Rise and Fall of the Neoliberal Order, these indictments fail to reckon with the full contours of what neoliberalism was and why its worldview had such persuasive hold on both the right and the left for three decades.

Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, and even Bill Clinton devastated the working class, George W. Bush tried to help but wasn't competent, Obama was a great moment in time, but he fell short, Trump is the antichrist and his followers are racists. But help may be on the way....in longtime neoliberal Joe Biden? He could have just named this book The Apocalypse. It was well written for the most part, however.

Historia
This mesmerizing, surreal account of the bizarre adventures of Terence McKenna, his brother Dennis, and a small band of their friends, is a wild ride of exotic experience and scientific inquiry. Exploring the Amazon Basin in search of mythical shamanic hallucinogens, they encounter a host of unusual characters - including a mushroom, a flying saucer, pirate Mantids from outer space, an appearance by James and Nora Joyce in the guise of poultry, and translinguistic matter - and discover the missing link in the development of human consciousness and language.

Jonathan Haidt skillfully combines two genres-philosophical wisdom and scientific research-delighting the listener with surprising insights. He explains, for example, why we have such difficulty controlling ourselves and sticking to our plans; why no achievement brings lasting happiness, yet a few changes in your life can have profound effects, and why even confirmed atheists experience spiritual elevation.

A great read, regardless of where you fall on the spectrum of ideas.
Revisado: 01-05-23
This book was fantastic. I wish my friends and family would read it. Unfortunately, they remain in their silos and refuse to hear any ideas, if those ideas come from someone from "the other side".
Religion/science, East/West, Liberal/Conservative, etc., the author finds redeeming qualities among all groups. No group is evil, and each group, regardless of how we are split, personifies qualities that can lead to happiness as long as you maintain an open mind, work hard, and stay the course.
